DANCING CITY: Let Dancing City take you on an afternoon's journey across the parks, piazzas, open spaces and waterfronts of Canary Wharf.
On the way you’ll encounter extraordinary young talent presented by Sadler’s Wells and Big Dance, exquisite Sufi whirling dervish choreography, exhilarating urban moves from France, contemporary dance from Candoco, Britain’s leading company of disabled and non-disabled dancers and a rare outdoor performance from English National Ballet.
Enjoy full performances and bite sized al fresco dance treats from some of the very best UK and international dance companies and artists on a Saturday dedicated to dance at Canary Wharf.
Saturday 29 June, 1-5pm, Various locations in Canary Wharf
1pm - 5pm; with performances throughout, Jubilee Plaza, Big Dance and Sadler's Wells present Big Dance’s Youth Dance Day, showcasing up to twenty superb dance companies and featuring the brightest young dance talent in London.
1.35pm & 3.15pm, running time approx. 30mins, Westferry Circus - Ziya Azazi presents Dervish in Progress - a contemporary exponent of the Sufi Whirling Dervish tradition appeared as part of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
1.45pm & 2.50pm, running time approx. 25mins, Cabot Square - Joli Vyann presents H2H - an exciting, thought-provoking innovation of dance, circus and theatre
1.20pm & 3.35pm, running time approx. 10mins, Cabot Square - Grounded presents Street Jam - Temujin Gill (responsible for the jive sequence in the Olympic Opening Ceremony) presents new work fusing lindy hop and street dance.
1.35pm & 3.20pm, running time approx. 10mins, Wren Landing - English National Ballet presents a pas de deux from Raymonda - a rare outdoor performance following the English National Ballet’s well received performances of Trois Gnossiennes.
1.55pm, & 4pm, running time approx. 30mins, Montgomery Square - Candoco Dance Company presents Studies for C - a sequel - the world’s leading integrated dance company of disabled and non-disabled dancers present a new outdoor duet choreographed by Javier de Frutos.
2.30pm & 4.35pm, running time approx. 30mins, Montgomery Square - French Compagnie Massala presents Deviation - an athletic, high energy dance performance which takes place around a car.
2.10pm & 4.25pm, running time approx. 35mins, Middle Dock - Studio Eclipse presents Two Sink One Float - a performance in the water of Canary Wharf’s dock which can be viewed from Cubitt Steps.
1pm & 3.45pm, running time approx. 30mins, Canary Riverside - i19 presents Layers - breaking new ground for circus and contemporary dance with fluid movement and intense physicality.
We will meet first in the Ledger Building Pub (in one of the rooms on the left) and use it as a base for the day. Events are happening throughout the day (see above for timings). There will be regular meetup times in the pub throughout the day (2.00pm 4.00pm and 6.00pm ) to help you re-establish contact with the group. However most likely there will always be someone around in the pub at all times!
