• THAMES PATH WALK - RICHMOND to TWICKENHAM VILLAGE via MARBLE HILL HOUSE

Join us for a GROUP WALK from Richmond Railway Station, along the Thames Path, north side, to Marble Hill House in Marble Hill Park and then on to Twickenham Village where we end in a pub. FRESH AIR: London's green suburbs are full of walking gems. Give up the city streets for a day and breathe some fresh air. Improve your overall fitness levels. Get out, explore and enjoy London's abundant and sometimes secret green spaces and enjoy its parks, rivers and lakes. SOCIALISING IN A GROUP WALK: The best way to see these green spaces and rivers is in a group walk. Chat to new friends during the walk and afterwards in a pub. ROUTE: - PARKS, GARDENS, THAMESPATH. From Richmond Railway Station, along the Thames Path, north side, to Marble Hill House in Marble Hill Park and then onto the Thames Path again to York House and Gardens before heading to Twickenham Village, beyond which, we end in a pub a short walk from Twickenham Railway Station (Zone 5). MARBLE HILL HOUSE: This is a beautiful Palladian villa (pictured) set in 66 acres of outstanding riverside parkland. Marble Hill was built for the remarkable Henrietta Howard, mistress of King George II when he was Prince of Wales. The house and gardens were an Arcadian retreat from crowded 18th-century London. Its grand interiors have been exquisitely restored and recreated and include a fine collection of early Georgian paintings. Note that it is not our intention to enter the house today (entrance fee payable), although of course you may do so if you wish and you can catch the group up later in the pub in Twickenham. STARTING POINT: 1.30pm outside Richmond Railway Station (District Line, London Overground and Mainline- Zone 4). Look for Ken with the Meetup/Ken's Event Flag. DROPOUT POINT: There is a dropout point at Marble Hill Park (bus route on north side of park) during the walk. END POINT: We will finish the walk at a pub a short walk (5 minutes) from Twickenham Railway Station (Zone 5). PUB at END of WALK: The socialising continues after the walk in The William Webb Ellis pub. Twickenham is the home of rugby and, appropriately, this Wetherspoon pub is named after William Webb Ellis, who is said to have invented the game. DISTANCE: Approx. 4.5 miles. This walk is totally flat. RISK WARNING FOR ALL WALKS: All the usual risks of countryside walking apply. Dress appropriately for weather conditions and carry a bottle of water and necessary medication. You need to be moderately fit for this walk and be able to walk for four miles without a break. In these walks we use; pavements, cross busy roads, public parkland, towpaths alongside water, other public paths, rights of way, bridlepaths, country lanes and other established paths and tracks through woodland, bush and countryside. Please only wear good sturdy shoes, preferably walking boots and take care as surfaces may be uneven, tree roots may protrude, there may be low overhanging branches and some paths are also used by joggers and cyclists and sometimes cars (country lanes). • LORD MAYOR'S PARADE.

    The Knights Templar

POMP and CEREMONY....is what the British do best! SEE THE LORD MAYOR'S PARADE - INWARD JOURNEY (Royal Courts to Mansion House). The Lord Mayor's Show is one of the longest established and best known annual events in London which dates back to 1535.The Lord Mayor in question is that of the City of London the historic centre of London that is now the metropolis's financial district, informally known as the Square Mile. A new Lord Mayor is appointed every year and the public parade that is made of his inauguration reflects the fact that this was once one of the most prominent offices in England. The event is a street parade which in its modern form is a fairly light-hearted combination of traditional British pageantry and elements of carnival. On the day after being sworn in, the Lord Mayor and several others participate in a procession from the City of London to the Royal Courts of Justice where the Lord Mayor swears his allegiance to the Crown. Around 6,000 people will be involved in the event alongside carriages, marching bands, floats and other vehicles. The procession itself is just under three miles long, and promises to be a memorable sight as it makes its way from The City to the Royal Courts of Justice. The Parade itself lasts for just over 1 1/4 hours, from start to finish. COST:Free event on presentation of the KEN'S EVENTS membership card. Otherwise there is a £4 meetup fee to the organiser. We will meet first in the bar (as above) and then head down to the embankment to see the whole of the parade on the return journey to the City of London. • BLACKHEATH BONFIRE NIGHT FIREWORKS (Free Display).

    Greenwich Cutty Sark Station

THIS IS LONDON'S BIGGEST and BEST FIREWORKS DISPLAY and it is FREE to enter!! Tonight is the FREE Blackheath fireworks display is a long standing highlight of London's event calendar. An estimated 100,000 people attend LONDON'S BIGGEST & BEST FREE GUY FAWKES/HALLOWEEN FIREWORKS DISPLAY last year! MEETING POINT: We will meet first outside Cutty Sark Station (DLR) from 7.00pm. We will leave the station at around 7.15pm to walk up to Blackheath in good time for the free fireworks display which commences at 8pm. SOCIALISING AFTER THE FIREWORKS: After the fireworks display we will head down from Blackheath to Lewisham to the WATCH HOUSE pub on Lewisham High Street (see map below) for more socialising. The Watch House is near Lewisham Library and also near Mc Donalds and Primark. Blackheath, where the fireworks are happening is only a short walk of about 20 minutes from Cutty Sark station. The walk back from the fireworks to our chosen bar (The Watch House) is about 15 mins. The brightly coloured map (above) shows the fireworks area at Blackheath. The Google Map which is also shown above shows the location of the Watch House pub. The pub is a Wetherspoons located on the main high street, so the drinks and food prices are cheap! Lewisham Station (which serves both DLR and Mainline trains and is also bus interchange) is only 7 minutes walk away from the pub. Why choose the Watch House? Not surprisingly, as this is the biggest fireworks display in London, all the pubs within a radius of half of mile from Blackheath (including Greenwich) get very busy on fireworks night as the crowds are massive. The Watch House is just outside that perimeter and is quite a large pub, the drinks are very reasonably priced, and the food is good value. This event is more than just a fireworks display, it also offers an evening of socialising with the group in the pub afterwards. Please note that there is a £4 nominal meetup organisers charge for this event for guests and for those members who do not hold the Ken's Event Membership Card. The Ken's Event Membership Card can be purchased on the night (or on the website) for only £15 and valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. It entitles you to go to all events for free.
