What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in paddling ( Kayak , Canoe or other ) and learning more about the local wildlife and the environment in this area. Beginners are welcome. Paddling is really the only way to get close to the fauna and flora, on the water, without destroying it. We have no other agenda other than to paddle and enjoy nature. Helen and I are both Florida Master Naturalists, This is our hobby. We also lead outings for the Sierra Club of Greater Charlotte Harbor as posted here, from time to time. We also participate in surveys and water clean up by various organizations
It cost nothing to join or participate in our events.

Thank you for joining our club.

Christmas lights and Sunset Cruise through PGI

Gilchrist Park, Punta Gorda

Launch at 5PM. Decorate your boats and dress up in Christmas attire. We will watch the sunset at Fisherman's Village and give the people who are dining a parade. Light up your boats with battery operated string lights, santas and Xmas trees, whatever.... no rules. We will paddle around Fisherman's Village and through PGI canals, look at the Christmas lights and give PGI a parade. We have done this for a number of years.... fun fun fun. The date is tentative as I will pick good weather and a calm night. Those who went last year will remember the rough harbor.

Audubon Bird Count....by KAYAK

Ponce de Leon Park

Do not have details right now, Most likely Ponce Park or maybe Webb Lake. Hang in there 😊

Sunset/Cold or Frost Moon ! Full Moon Paddle from Matlasha

Matlacha Community Park

We can try out our Christmas lights if you like and make this a festive occasion! Sunset is getting earlier this time of year. We leave the launch at 5.15PM to make the sunset at the north end of the island which is at 5.39 pm. Moonrise follows at 6.06 pm according to tides4fishing.com. This is a day into night paddle, you will need lights for you and your kayak as well as safety gear. As the weather cools life vests should be warn as immersion can chill you quickly making you sluggish and unable to help yourself, spare clothes in the car this time of year are an excellent idea. Libation's and snacks are optional. Lighting options; glow sticks from the dollar stores, battery lights of all kinds (Christmas, camping, bicycle ...) reflectors make you more visible but are not themselves lights. Stick on Mail Box reflectors (wipe surface with alcohol they stay longer) cut easily to the size you want, even shape. The tide is rising. The ramp is always slippery, please be careful. Paddles dip at 5.15 pm, Plan accordingly: latecomers will have to catch up. We will launch in waves for social distancing as some are medically compromised or have loved ones that are. Thank You for your understanding and care.

HAPPY NEW YEAR-VIEW PICTURES OF OUR PAST TRIPS ON THE PHOTO TAB

HAPPY NEW YEAR
We are planning an exciting year of paddles.
We explore the waters of creeks, lakes, bays and the gulf within 40 miles of Punta Gorda. Frequently we have lunch in a restaurant during or after, and snorkeling, the highlight of paddles when the water is warm enough.
We may join with the Charlotte Harbor Sierra Club assisting them on keeping the waterways navigable and charity events such as Team Punta Gorda. Be sure to check our site daily as impromptu paddles will be listed. We welcome your suggestions for paddle locations.
TO VIEW PICTURES OF SOME OF OUR PAST PADDLES, SELECT THE PHOTOS TAB FROM THE TOP OF THE SITE.

Looking forward to having you join us.
