Lots of people signed up for this in the past...once it went well, once the clouds blocked the sunset and the full moon.
Low tide in Barnstable Harbor is 7:06 PM, sunset is at 8:16 PM and there is a full moon. If we set off at 7:00 PM, we will have enough light to get back while the sun is setting....and maybe see the full moon, if we choose to wait for it.
What about an evening picnic? Too much?
Dogs and people can wade/walk across the mouth of Chase Garden Creek to the sandy beach on the other side of the water, where off-road vehicles go from the end of Chapin Beach Rd., Dennis. Everybody seems to enjoy it and the dogs love it. There is a HUGE area of wet sand on the Chapin Beach side where we can walk.
Suggestions: bare feet/water shoes/kayaking shoes would be good. A bathing suit or shorts seems ideal...plan to get wet to at least mid-thigh. Consider NOT carrying anything you don't want to get wet....if you slip, you'll end up in the water. Or ziploc bag your cell phone.
DIRECTIONS: From Rt.6, the Mid-Cape Highway, take exit 8 and go NORTH on Union St. to Rt 6A. Cross 6A, by going a tiny bit to the left of a gas station to get on Old Church St. (If you miss that and are on 6A heading west, take the next right on Playground and head north...it will join Old Church St. ) About 0.3 mile up Old Church from 6A, bear right at the stop sign onto Center St. Go 0.5 mile on Center and at the T, take a left to stay on Center and drive until you are in the parking lot. Park there and walk down the gravel road to the beach, just before the boardwalk. There are restrooms at the back of the parking lot. If you get there early, walking out the boardwalk gives a nice, distant view.
Fingers crossed for good weather. Hope it works this time.
