Solo Exhibition & Auction of Paintings by Joshua Menheere

Kea Studio 74 Ridderford Street Newtown

Bio:

Joshua Menheere was born in Melbourne and nurtured by the Sunshine coast.
He has been painting his own flavor of graffiti and street art since 2007.
He has never conformed to society and even breaks the rules of the graffiti world.
By writing in sanskrit, painting symbols of peace, love and happiness and using art to bring attention to matters of self development he stands out on the streets. Painting solo meant he could stay true to his motivation to make a difference.
Since the beginning of 2019 he made a choice to give up unsanctioned street art and focus his energy on his own spiritual development, painting canvases for peoples homes, leading workshops, doing murals and making comics.
The flavor of his work is inspired by New York subway art in the late 70's but the content is based on wisdom from the Vedas, traditional Indian arts and basic human values that contribute to well-being.

Artist statement:

This is my first solo show in NZ.
The works in this show are the cream of my art making since arriving here 3 years ago.
Through humorous imagery I hope to highlight the insanity of materialism and through stylized interpretations of traditional indian painting I hope to give new relevance to the positive spiritual values that have informed my life and art for the last 10 years.
I have a strong urge to create art that makes a difference in the quality of life as a human being. I sometimes refer to my paintings as painted possibilities because I believe an image can inspire the viewer in a possibility.
