Brazilian Zouk

Details

Brazilian Zouk is a social partner dance from Brazil that came from Lambada. The dance is well known for its body movements, iconic head movements, off-axis turns, and freedom for expression. Because the dance was developed in the mid-90s in Rio de Janeiro by Adilio Porto and Renata Peçanha, the dance is still very young and constantly evolving. Till this day, Zouk artists are constantly innovating new technique and moves. Originally, Zouk was danced to Caribbean Zouk music (hence the name, however, Caribbean Zouk dance is a completely different dance). Since then, the range of music that Zouk can be danced to has vastly widened and includes songs from genres such as Kizomba, Reggaeton, Pop, Hip Hop, and R&B. Different dances, such as sensual bachata and now West Coast Swing, have added Zouk movements into their dance.

Our class will dive into Brazilian Zouk and provide students the foundation they need to become good social Zouk dancers. We will focus on technique, safety, culture, and, most importantly, fun. The goal of the class is to provide students with the tools necessary to enable them to grow and express themselves in Zouk. The class will be open to all ages and a partner is not required.

Class (drop_in): $15/class, check out our web page for bigger discounts and more dance lessons: http://dancein.org
