What we're about

If you are 50+, love movies (old and new), and seeking opportunities to meet new people with common interests, this is the club for you.

This group is primarily set up like a book club. We will watch the movie selections on our own time. A month between meetings should allow enough time for each of us to have watched the next month’s movie, so we can discuss it at the next month’s meeting. That’s not to say that we can’t go as a group (some or all) to a theatre and watch a movie—whether or not it is the next month’s selection.

We will meet from 6-8 pm the second Thursday of each month, order food and/or drinks, and discuss the current month's movie.

There will be a new movie chosen each month by the host/hostess for the upcoming month. The movie genres, classic to contemporary, should range from action to Western and just about anything in between.

The host/hostess for each upcoming month should also choose a public location (preferably with an area which allows for discussion) for the club to meet.

Political or religious discussions should be limited if not avoided. I ask that you only want to enjoy a couple of hours of social interaction, centered around a chosen movie, and make new friends. All I require is reciprocal respect for one another.

This is not a dating club and people 50+, single or married, are invited to join.

I look forward to the first meeting, diverse movie and location selections, vibrant discussions with men and women alike, and seeing each of you monthly.

ABOUT THE MOVIE: Based on a real-life case in 1925, two great lawyers argue the case for and against a science teacher accused of the crime of teaching evolution, which creates a national furor. Teacher B.T. Cates is arrested for teaching Darwin's theories. Famous lawyer Henry Drummond defends him; fundamentalist politician Matthew Brady prosecutes. This is a very thinly disguised rendition of the 1925 "Scopes monkey trial" with debates between Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan taken largely from the transcripts.

ABOUT THE MOVIE: Who killed Mr. Boddy? Where did they do it? What weapon did they use? Odds are, you’ve probably played the mystery board game Clue. Based on the popular board game, Clue finds six colorful dinner guests gathered at the mansion of their host, Mr. Boddy, who turns up dead after his secret is exposed: He was blackmailing all of them. With the killer among them, the guests and Boddy’s chatty butler must suss out the culprit before the body count rises. Clue is, quite simply, a brilliant farce and a genuinely funny film.

SOME WATCH OPTIONS: YouTube for free, Prime Video with subscription, Google Play and VUDU for $2.99 each, and iTunes and Apple TV for $3.99 each.
