EKOL is a network for lesbians who share some things in common: we grew up as girls and young women through the 40s, 50s and 60s, with all the varied experiences that being female through those years entailed as we were growing towards our current lesbian identities.
We promote a wide variety of activities on a regular basis throughout the region, such as coffee mornings and meals out; cycling, walking, and badminton; cinema and theatre visits. It's the members who propose events which are posted on this site.
Feel free to come along to a couple of meetings to see whether the group is for you. If you decide that it is, there is a small annual fee - details on paying this are below.
We look forward to meeting you soon,
Carol and Ailie
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
• What is meant by "older" lesbian?
It's up to you to define "older" as you see fit. Whether you're 50 or 90 if you're happy socialising with women of all ages then you'd be very welcome.
• Why do I have to provide a photograph of myself?
This is so that other members will recognise you when you attend events. Photographs of inanimate objects, pets, etc. don't cut the mustard. Because this is a private group nobody - other than other members of the group - will either know that you are a member or be able to see your photograph.
• What is the annual donation, what is it for and how do I pay?
Meetup charges us £162 per year for us to have our group on their site. As a group we have decided to share the costs via a £5 per year donation, which we think is a bargain. If there is surplus then we use this to fund a Facebook advert for new members in the January of the following year. You can pay either by:
• PayPal (at https://www.paypal.me/EastKentOLN ), • Cash (give the money to Carol or Ailie at the monthly Social and Planning meeting), or • Cheque (make payable to Carol Small and message her for her address)
• What if I'm shy?
Ask an event organiser (e.g. Carol or Ailie) if they'd mind meeting you just before the event starts and introducing you to other members.
• I'm a technophobe - how can I get help on using the site?
Bring your phone or ipad to one of the regular monthly “Social and Planning” meetings and ask someone to show you.
• Can I bring a guest?
Yes, but they must be female, gay friendly and you can only bring the same person once as a guest; after that they'll be required to join themselves.
