What we're about

This book club will become a guilty pleasure.

You are an adult so you must spend all your time being an adult and your passions and desires should be mature in nature. But that's boring. To counteract all that adulting I am creating a kid lit book club.

This is a book club for adults to read and discuss children's books.

Harry Potter, Nevermoore, His Name was Walter, Lion Witch & the Wardrobe. We will read new stories just released and old favourites you either read a hundred times or may have missed.

A monthly meetup on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30pm-9pm.

Book #6 - A Winter's Promise

Cafe63 - New Farm Park

Book #6 - A Winter's Promise by Christelle Dabbos There are 5 copies at the library and 2 currently available. This book has had a lot of good press and seems like an interesting idea for a made up world. Synopsis: Plain-spoken, headstrong Ophelia cares little about appearances. Her ability to read the past of objects is unmatched in all of Anima, and, what's more, she possesses the ability to travel through mirrors, a skill passed down to her from previous generations. Her idyllic life is disrupted, however, when she is promised in marriage to Thorn, a taciturn and influential member of a distant clan. She must leave all she knows behind and follow her fianc to Citaceleste, the capital of a cold, icy ark known as the Pole, where danger lurks around every corner and nobody can be trusted. There, in the presence of her inscrutable future husband, she slowly realizes that she is a pawn in a political game that will have far-reaching ramifications not only for her but for her entire world.

Book #7 - Rivers of London

Cafe63 - New Farm Park

Book #7 - River of London by Ben Aaronovitch There are 7 copies at the Brisbane City Library but you will most likely need to place a hold. This is the first book in the series. Synopsis: My name is Peter Grant and until January I was just probationary constable in that mighty army for justice known to all right-thinking people as the Metropolitan Police Service (and as the Filth to everybody else). My only concerns in life were how to avoid a transfer to the Case Progression Unit - we do paperwork so real coppers don't have to - and finding a way to climb into the panties of the outrageously perky WPC Leslie May. Then one night, in pursuance of a murder inquiry, I tried to take a witness statement from someone who was dead but disturbingly voluble, and that brought me to the attention of Inspector Nightingale, the last wizard in England. Now I'm a Detective Constable and a trainee wizard, the first apprentice in fifty years, and my world has become somewhat more complicated: nests of vampires in Purley, negotiating a truce between the warring god and goddess of the Thames, and digging up graves in Covent Garden ... and there's something festering at the heart of the city I love, a malicious vengeful spirit that takes ordinary Londoners and twists them into grotesque mannequins to act out its drama of violence and despair. The spirit of riot and rebellion has awakened in the city, and it's falling to me to bring order out of chaos - or die trying.
