What we're about
Who We Are
We are a group of diverse and dedicated volunteers who bring tennis to children living in and around public housing communities in Brooklyn.
What We Do
We serve children who live in or near five housing developments in Bedford-Stuyvesant--Marcy, Sumner, Lafayette Gardens, Brevoort, and Tompkins--throughout the year. We operate in three tennis seasons: Winter (February-April), Summer (June-September), and Fall (September-November).
In addition to teaching tennis, we engage our students through discussions about communication, healthy eating, school, values, and the environment. We also take our students on unique field trips to educational sites throughout New York City.
We Have Fun, Too!
We help children, have fun, and make friends! We organize year-round social events for our volunteers, including happy hours, hitting sessions at local tennis clubs, tournaments, coffee tastings, dinners, and more.
Our next season that's open for registration is Winter 2018. Register on our website: http://www.kingscountytennisleague.org/volunteer to learn about training, the 2018 Winter Season timeline, social events, and more. Tennis experience is helpful but not required to volunteer with us.
About Kings County Tennis League
Kings County Tennis League (KCTL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to using tennis as a vehicle for youth development and community building in Brooklyn's public housing communities. KCTL was founded in 2010 by Michael McCasland, a forensic scientist who lived in the neighborhood and saw the unused tennis court at Marcy Houses as an opportunity for children.
