What we're about

Welcome to the Kingston Knitting Bee! We hope you’ll feel at home and become a regular! We’re a welcoming group of knitters, crocheters and stitchers who come together weekly to stitch, chat, and enthuse about all things fibre-y. There are experts available to help with tricky techniques, but our members come in all skill levels and interests and are just generally happy to cheer each other on!

Our weekly meetings are friendly hangouts, not formal classes, so please bring along your current project and necessary tools. Or if you're a complete novice, and would like a quick, informal lesson, just turn up with a ball of wool and needles and learn to knit or crochet-- there's always someone eager to help.

Safety and inclusion matter to us!

We value the safety of the members of our wonderful knitting and stitching community and follow government and scientific advice regarding vaccinations, social distancing and masks. Please do not attend a meet-up if you are experiencing symptoms related to Covid-19. As we navigate 2021 and the confusion of lifting restrictions, we ask that members be aware that others may have different levels of comfort with social distance.

We celebrate the unique creativity and of all individuals and value diverse heritages, traditions and experiences. It's important to our members that you feel welcome here!

(Kingston Knitting Bee was formerly 'Hands Coffee Company Kingston Knitting Meetup,' from April 2015 to January 2016. We also met at Glutopia Bakery from January 2016 to June 2019.)

Knitting, crochet, stitching and chatting!

The Canbury Arms Kingston

Hi everyone! It’s been AWHILE!

Please bring your current project and join us! We’re starting up our indoor meet-ups again, back at a comforting, familiar place, The Canbury Arms—it’s going to feel like old times!

We’re an informal group, not a class, and there’s no fee to attend.

We meet in the private room on the first floor; the stairs leading up to the room are found just through the doorway directly to the right of (and slightly behind) the bar. If in doubt, please ask at the bar! You can order drinks and snacks at the bar or use the Young's - On Tap app (the private room is table number 70). Only card and payments through the app are accepted at the moment, to avoid the handling of cash.

Novice knitters:

Complete beginners are very welcome to join! If you’re a self-directed learner and want an informal lesson, bring along a ball of aran weight wool and 5mm needles and we can get you started knitting! Please make sure to shoot Christine a message ahead so that she can keep a seat free next to herself or another experienced knitter.

If you prefer a more structured/focused learning environment, Christine teaches beginning and intermediate/advanced knitting at Beautiful Knitters yarn shop in Pimlico! Visit https://beautifulknitters.co.uk/collections/knitting-1 to sign up for a workshop. (Classes will resume Autumn 2021.)

Accessibility:

Our sincerest apologies, but our current event location is only accessible via staircase. We are searching for a more accessible option; if you know of a welcoming space with good accessibility, please do send Christine a DM!
