What we're about
Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance, originating in Angola where the local semba music was fused with Caribbean zouk. It then spread to Europe via Portugal where it became influenced by other music & dance styles. Kizomba music, with it's African rhythms & sensual touch, is generally characterized by a slower and usually very romantic rhythm, while songs are predominantly sung in Portuguese. A stronger semba influence however lends to a more party rhythm. In fact kizomba means party in the local Angolan language.
Prior to discovering kizomba, Jason had many years of experience in various dance styles, including Swing, Tango, Zouk, Salsa, & Bachata. He also competed & performed with various dance groups, and has been a dance instructor since 2008. After discovering a passion for Kizomba, Jason decided to form Kizomba Connection NZ, in the hope that he could combine his knowledge, skills, technique & experience to help inspire the growth of kizomba in NZ.
