Klamath Trails Alliance will clear fallen logs and clean waterbars (drainage) on the Mountain Lakes Loop Trail in the Mountain Lakes Wilderness with an overnight backpacking adventure. We will focus on the 2 mile section between Varney Creek Trail and Lake Harriette.
The Project - On Saturday we will hike in from the Varney Creek TH. Varney Creek has already been cleared to about mile 4. We will start our work there and work toward Lake Como where we will jetison the heavy gear, make camp and then continue our efforts. Camp location is subject to change based on progress and site specific conditions we find when we get there.
On Sunday we will break camp and continue our efforts toward Lake Harriette. We will turn around about 2PM to make the 5-6 mile hike back to the TH.
This is an overnight self-supported event. Participants must bring and carry thier own gear, food and water. The organizers may have some gear and freeze dried food. Please contact Heather, Lee or Misty directly if you need something. Everyone will share the weight of tools and equipment (up to an additional 10 pounds).
No experience is necessary however, participants should be in good physical condition for back packing, bending, lifting and camping in a remote Wilderness environment. Backpacking expereince is beneficial. We will be using traditional cross cut saws, hand saws, loppers and digging tools. We will provide the tools, training and safety gear. You provide your own backpack, camping gear, food and water. A packing list will be provided to those that register.
