What we're about
Upcoming events (4+)
Now that the nights are longer and the winter is truly here, it's time to curl up with a good book - and what better way to do it than with other book lovers.
The Chosen and the Beautiful is a vibrant and queer reinvention of F. Scott Fitzgerald's jazz age classic The Great Gatsby. Jordan Baker - now a Vietnamese orphan plucked up as a child by a missionary in Tonkin and raised by a wealthy American family - narrates the story, and infuses it with a magic realism that builds upon Fitzgerald's work.
The New York Times declared The Chosen and the Beautiful "a sumptuous, decadent read". The book won't be for everyone, but if you like your books on the subversive, atmospheric, gothic side, then join us on Tuesday January 25 at 6pm where we'll discuss the good and the bad of The Chosen and the Beautiful.
Please note: we are meeting indoors at Taralucci et Vino, Union Square. You will need to be fully vaccinated, have proof of vaccination, and be prepared to pay cash and 1.3 times your dinner bill.
This is a capped event. Per KANY's no show policy, anyone with more than 2 no shows will be unable to attend. Only RSVP if you are prepared to read the book, and attend the event.
"When you're alone and life is making you lonely
You can always knit - downtown.
When you've got worries, grab your knitting and hurry
Come and knit with us - downtown."
Downtown Knitting is back for 2022, bigger and better than ever. We're still Covid-cautious, but we have our needles and hooks at the ready, and we are ready for some social yarning.
Please join us at The Penny Farthing, on E 13th and 3rd, from 6pm.
Uptown, Midtown and out of town knitters welcome!
Please note: this is a capped event, and our booking is inside. Please only RSVP if you are comfortable dining inside, are mask-friendly and can prove vaccination/booster status. Members with 2 no shows, will be unable to attend future capped events.
Ok Pink Ladies, it's time to dust off the leather jacket, squeeze yourself into your slinky pants, powder over your hickey from Kenickie and warm up your vocal cords - because Grease IS the word.
Angelika East Village are heralding in 2022 with Musical Monday sing-a-longs, including movies like Cabaret, Mamma Mia, Singin' in the Rain and Meet Me in St Louis - and they are kicking January off with Grease.
The movie starts at 7.30pm, and we'll meet somewhere nearby for a quick nosh at 6pm. Tickets are $16 (+ fees), and you are responsible for purchasing your own ticket (link below). You can join us for dinner and a movie, or just the movie.
Please remember: this is an in person event. You must be fully vaccinated (ideally including a booster), and have proof of vaccination. Masks will need to be worn inside the theatre. If you are joining us for dinner, please bring cash and be prepared to pay 1.3 times your dinner bill.
Any maybe say a prayer that this bastard Covid doesn't ruin the movie - I don't know about y'all, but I am totally OVER this virus!
As long as we're allowed out, come hang out with us every other week for a chill happy hour and crafting.
All yarn lovers welcome!
PLEASE NOTE: This event is pretty popular and usually has a waiting list - so be kind to your fellow members and update your RSVP if you find you're not able to attend.
We'll be tracking no-shows (which includes last-minute cancellations), and if you accrue more than 5 no-shows you won't be able to attend this event any more.
