What we're about

The KHTA is an Indiana non-profit corporation whose members are dedicated to the completion, preservation, and promotion of the Knobstone Hiking Trail. This footpath follows the Knobstone Escarpment from 30 miles south of Indianapolis to 10 miles north of Louisville, KY. A long-term management organization for the trail assures continuity of assistance in maintaining the trail to the governmental entities whose jurisdictions the trail passes through.

KHT section hike #2

Tecumseh/Low Gap trailhead MMSF

This will be the second section hike along the Knobstone Hiking Trail, this time starting at the northern terminus. We'll be hiking from just outside Martinsville to the Orcutt Road Low Gap Trailhead, which is about 12 miles of mostly off trail hiking. I plan on hiking it out and back, which will be about 22 miles as the return hike is shorter. We will meet around 9:15am at Orcutt Road if you'd like to find a ride north to the start at 9:30, and we'll begin the hike at 10 am.
We'll start on the KHTA trail on a easement at the conservation club, hiking the route I spent last winter exploring in hopes of connecting to the Tecumseh Trail. We'll go around Prather Lake, cross the road around the Hatfield Ridge area, and then pass some unique areas on the way to Orcutt Road. I'll then return to the beginning, using a somewhat shorter and easier route.
Only rain or freezing rain will delay this hike, and a lot of snow will change this to a shorter snowshoe hike if we get that lucky! This hike will be rated as difficult, with a lot of steep hills, off trail hiking and creek crossings.

KHT section hike #3
