What are the purposes of Knowledge Organization Research? Dr Deborah Lee

Details

ISKO UK student grant winner for 2018, Dr Deborah Lee from City, University of London will be discussing the purposes of KO research and ways of categorising these purposes. She used the grant to attend the ISKO 2018 international conference in Porto where she also gave a paper about universality in music classification. She says: “KO is such a rich field of research for being used for so many purposes, and has such a diverse audience (consultants, LIS professionals, researchers in LIS, researchers outside of LIS etc.). I want to consider how these purposes interrelate with each other, and how they drive forward research in KO. I was especially inspired by one of Rick Szostak's papers in Porto, where he talked about using KO as a pedagogical tool for an undergraduate textbook in world history. This can be used as a starting point for a more general discussion about the idea of the purposes of KO research.”

Come along to a lively and profound presenter and bring your ideas about the role of research along with you for what promises to be a good discussion.
