Master Storytelling with B-Roll on YouTube
Details
Do you want to improve your storytelling with engaging content?
Prior to Youtube, smartphones, and video editing software, we've been limited to creating slideshows for our visual presentation. Now that everyone has access to these tools, we can create engaging storytelling content that inspires our audience to action.
In this session, I'll share how to create amazing b-roll footage to add you our story. I'll share ideas on how to create openers, capture a journey, inspire action, and leave with a memorable outro.
Here are the tips I'll share in our Meetup.
- Create a story - intro, teaser, journey, results, outro. For this example, I’ll be telling a story about b-roll and recording it in an interesting spot downtown.
- Record people passing by
- Record footage of the environment
- Drone capture interesting points of view
- OneWheel captures interesting motion in the background
- Change your perspective - Get high, low wide, and telephoto shots.
- Add different camera motions such as panning in, out, up, or down.
- Look for motion such as people, animals, or nature.
- Look for color variations in the scene
- Look for light exposure. Is there direct sunlight or shadow. Are you overexposed or underexposed?
- Try looking up if you have a tall structure.
- What is the tempo of your story? Does the b-roll match the pace of your story?
- If you’re unable to get a shot, such as a drone, consider stock footage
Edit after each recording. You may need multiple takes. Insert 3-5 B-roll clips in between each phase of your story. Each clip 2-3 seconds.
