Paddle Florida's “Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trial"

I had to cancel my Florida trip for this spring/summer but I have found that I always need a goal in my life. So here’s my next goal. Paddle the Florida “Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trial”. The trail is open from September 1st thru June 30th. It is 105 miles long and setup to take 8 nights & 9 days

There is a 40 page guide which gives some great information and shows the campsites which are an average of 10 to 14 miles apart. This guide may be ordered at http://myfwc.com/viewing/recreation/wmas/lead/big-bend/paddling-trail/guide/ for $15.00. It contains information about the campsite, the route, availability of water and much more important information. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission does not allow this to be done as a solo trip.

Permits are required and the sites are limited to 8 people with no more than 4 tents. If you are interested in this trip contact me at[masked] (talk or text) so we can exchange phone numbers and emails. This will take a lot of planning so please let me know ASAP if you are interested. Due to the limited number of people allowed at each site please respond only if you are serious about making a commitment.

I will be listing this paddle with Knoxville on the Water Meetup, Hampton Roads Meetup, River Mice Meetup and on FB at the Church of the Double-Bladed Paddle page also.  Dates are Nov 11 – 20 and reservations for the campsites will be made on July 16th.

Currently (7/7/16) there are 5 people signed up for this trip. Only 3 open spots left!

More information will be posted as available.

RSVP's for this meetup are closed. All spots are full.

Just exchanged emails with Liz down in FL asking if we should use tents or hammocks. She advises that trees for hammock use are not always present. Stick with tents.

I’ve been looking at the campsite reservation system for our Florida paddle. Reservations can be made no earlier than six (6) months in advance. Based on that information I will make the necessary reservations on May 11th.

I will post camping information after the sites are confirmed. If for some reason some of the sites are no available for our dates I will contact everybody ASAP. If you don’t think I have your phone number please get it to me talk or text[masked]

If you don't have one already own one this is a good thing to have. I have been carrying one for several years.
