Here are the details for the 10th MKLCC Samulnori Workshop, 2018 Fall session. What is Samulnori (사물놀이)? It is a form of Traditional Korean "Farming Music". It means something like "Game Played with Four Objects" (the four objects are the four percussion instruments of Samulnori). We play Samulnori with (1) the Kkwaenggwari (꽹과리) or Little Gong, (2) Jing (징) or Big Gong, (3) Janggu (장구) or Hourglass Drum, and (4) Buk (북) or Bass Drum. Purposes : (1) To have fun learning Samulnori together! While learning music, relaxing and releasing stress, we also get to experience the essence of the Korean culture better. (2) To contribute to the fabric of our MKLCC community! By participating and doing things together, we form stronger bonds with each other. In so doing, we are able to give back to our community while promoting traditional Korean culture. (3) To provide our MKLCC Samulnori Team(s) the chance to show their stuff with a performance at different cultural events on various stages throughout the year. SESSIONS & PRACTICES: -Starting from October 14, 2018, 12 sessions of 1.5 hrs alternating a session with instructor and a practice session. -2 groups: Beginners and Advanced DATES & HOURS: -Beginner group (9h-10h30) and Advanced group (10h30-12h): Saturdays, from Oct. 13, 2018 to Jan. 12, 2019, 12 sessions (no session on Dec. 22 & 29 for Christmas and New Year Holidays) we might add extra practice time at the discretion of the instructor.
