Hello everyone,

Dakgangjeong (닭강정) is a deep-fried crispy chicken dish glazed in a sticky, sweet, and spicy Korean sauce. It’s traditionally made with a whole chicken that’s been cut up. Some people make it only with chicken wings.

However, Dakgangjeong made with bite-sized boneless chicken pieces has become a recent food craze in Korea, adding to the growing trends of Korean fried chicken. Many like the boneless version because it’s quicker and easier to make.

Dak means chicken in Korean. Gangjeong is a type of traditional Korean confectionery. It’s made by deep-frying sweet rice batter into crackers, coating with syrup, and finally covering with puffed rice, sesame seeds, or nuts. Traditionally, the similar concept/technique — deep frying and coating with a sticky syrup — is also used to make various other sweet and savoury dishes. Dakgangjeong is the chicken version.

Meeting Time and Getting There:

The Workshop will be at the Soora Korean Food (수라) on Somerled avenue. Please arrive at the Soora kitchen at 1:45 PM at the latest for the registration. The workshop will start at 2:00 PM and it will last for approx. 3 hrs, including demonstration, tasting., cooking time, and cleaning.

You can enter the Soora Kitchen through the door at the side of the building (Behind the Dormez-Vous store, at the parking lot). We'll put the MKLCC logo sign on the door.

For those who're coming using public transportation, you can take 102 West (Somerled) or 104 West (Cavendish) bus at the Vendôme Metro Station and get off at Borden stop (102) or at Somerled (104). If you miss the bus, the wait time for each bus is quite long on Saturdays (every 30 to 40 mits.), but since there are two buses, on average, it could be 15 to 20 mits. But still, please make sure to leave early to be on time.
