ScalaCamp #3

We are happy to invite you to 3rd ScalaCamp meetup. This time we've invited well-known Scala contributors  to share their thoughts on a few topics and who also have talks on GeeCON this year:

- Grzegorz Kossakowski - Scala compiler and tools hacker at Typesafe.

- Vojin Jovanovic - A PhD student working on high-performance embedded DSLs in the LAMP laboratory at EPFL that is led by Martin Odersky.

- Piotr Gabryanczyk - Akka commiter and author of async-dynamo, an Akka based Scala Amazon Dynamo DB client.

A general agenda looks as follows but it all depends on you finally at the meetup :)

16:00 - 16:30 Discussion panel - Future of Scala - prepare some questions for our guests too :).

16:30 - 17:00 Scalac / Features of Java 8 used by Scala 2.11 by Grzegorz Kossakowski.

17:00 - 17:15 Short break for discussions, drinks and snacks.

17:15 - 17:45 Yin-Yang: Transparent Deep Embedding of DSLs by Vojin Jovanovic.

17:45 - 18:15 How Scala made my tests more meaningful by  Piotr Gabryanczyk.

18:15 - … Discussions, networking, moving to some pub or pub garden outside.

Checkout more details on ScalaCamp website. There still maybe slight changes to the agenda but we will notify about that.

As the meetup is on Saturday there will be something suitable to drink and eat like beers and snacks :). Please RSVP to our meetup as this will help us make estimation of required quantity.

PS: A hint for GeeCONians - the venue is the same place as GeeCON OpenSpaces - so just stay where you are after them and join up with the Scala User Group!

I missed the introduction talk on the first meetup, and there probably won't be any more like that, but there's no point seeing other talks if all I know about Scala is that "it's some kind of Java with a nicer syntax". Can someone recommend any good videos I could watch?

We actually plan to do introductory talk again, maybe on 4th ScalaCamp, we will see. As for the introduction there is nice series of articles for people with Java background here: http://www.ibm.com/de...=. Also, this video: http://www.infoq.com/... was recommended when I searched for this kind of introduction last time, but I have to admit I personally did not watched it yet 'couse I'm not that interested in introductory talks now ;)
