Introduction to OpenTelemetry

Modern application architectures, such as microservices, have revolutionized the way we build and deploy our systems. The cloud native ecosystem of Kubernetes, Envoy, gRPC, and other projects have sprung up to manage the infrastructure for these systems, but has also demonstrated the need for comprehensive observability to actually understand what's going on. OpenTelemetry, by providing a standard library and API for collecting distributed traces and metrics, makes it easy to generate and export trace and metric data that can help developers and operators understand how their applications are functioning. In this talk, you'll learn about how OpenTelemetry works, how to get started with it in your services, and you'll see how to export data to open source backends like Jaeger and Prometheus.
