In this session I will share the pros and cons of mixing Kafka with K8s, pitfalls to watch and what to expect. I will try to answer the big question of how mature is K8S for data intensive clusters, did StatefulSet do the trick? Will go over Kafka's special needs in terms of platform and infrastructure, and also will cover integration initiatives such as Confluent Operator, Strimzi, Bitnami containers, that aim to ease and standardise Kafka deployment on K8s.

19:15 - 20:00 - Data Distribution Service (DDS) – The Connectivity Framework for Highly Distributed Systems, Gal Schlesinger

The Data Distribution Service (DDS) is a middleware protocol and API standard for data-centric connectivity, originated at Stanford University research labs. It integrates the components of a system together, providing low-latency data connectivity, extreme reliability, and a scalable architecture. In this session we will discuss the Message Centric vs. Data Centric approaches, introduce DDS as a Data centric approach and how it complements microservices architectures.

Gal Schlesinger:
System engineer and a distributed IIOT systems architect with more than 7 years’ experience in design and development of highly complex civil & military systems. A Data Distribution Service (DDS) expert, currently works with Real-Time Innovations (RTI), an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity software company.

Matan Zohar:
Helping various customers define and run Kafka & New Data Technologies in production for the past 3 years. Over 11 years of R&D, DevOps & Operations experience, from the deep dark sides of tuning proprietary servers written in assembly and C, to all the new and shiny tools we now use in streaming & "big data" platforms.
