Isle of Cats : Kubernetes Networking Revealed

We are excited to announce the June meetup scheduled for Wednesday June 19th. Speaker is from https://www.tigera.io/ Kubernetes networking plug-ins and frameworks are necessary and integral to running K8s. This talk will explain how the two most common frameworks: Flannel and Calico work underneath the hood including the Calico and Flannel CNI plugins. For cloud provider specific audiences we can also cover in depth how Calico interacts with various CNI plugins provided by the cloud providers. Once we understand these basics we can then show some best practices and solutions to common gotchas with the goal of increasing the speed and reliability of your Kubernetes networking plane. Speaker Bio: Drew Oetzel has been working with enterprise software since the late 90s. Focusing on his recent experience, he spent seven years at Splunk, honing his security skills. Two and a half years at Mesosphere, then Heptio mastering the art of distributed systems, containers, and all that goes along with them. Outside of tech ask him about history, gardening, or what he's doing to try to curb his Reddit addiction! 6:30 - 6:45 - Social 6:45 - 7:10 - Club Business/JobFair 7:10 - 8:10 - Isle of Cats : Kubernetes Networking Revealed 8:10 - 8:15 - Group Discussions /Q&A 8.15 - 8.30 - Social/Wrap-up

Observability Workshop: Kubernetes, Tracing, and Metrics

We are excited to announce the July meetup scheduled for Wednesday July 17th. Speaker from https://www.instana.com/ The goal of this workshop is to familiarize attendees with the benefits that modern observability tools provide to the builders and curators of cloud native applications. In this workshop attendees will configure a RBAC-enabled vanilla K8S cluster in GKE, deploy prometheus and jaeger in support of observing and monitoring a distributed microservice application, instrument that application by introducing libraries and tooling to support capturing business metrics as well. Each attendee will configure, update, and deploy a cloud native application. Speaker Bio: Kevin Crawley 6:30 - 6:45 - Social 6:45 - 7:10 - Club Business/JobFair 7:10 - 8:10 - Observability Workshop: Kubernetes, Tracing, and Metrics 8:10 - 8:15 - Group Discussions /Q&A 8.15 - 8.30 - Social/Wrap-up

Kubernetes through iteration

Improving

We are excited to announce the September meetup scheduled for Wednesday September 19th. Thinking of implementing Docker/Kubernetes? Come learn from someone who has gone through that experience. This talk is an exploratory look back on two months of heavy Kubernetes learning and application through iteration. It highlights many of the opportunities and failures of trying to achieve a production-ready cluster while leveraging existing resources through the eyes of a systems engineer. Through this talk, listeners will be able to witness first hand the challenges and risks taken, realize that their own failures are not uncommon, spread adoption of new technology within an organization, and how they can make reliability and performance first class products in their own organizations. Speaker Bio Matt Ouille is a Dallas-area systems engineer and software development enthusiast, currently applying his specialty to distributed systems and the world of industrial internet of things and also leads the DFW Site Reliability Engineering meetup. As an engineer one of his core tenants is the ability to share, he takes pride in both his workshops, and posting his learnings on his website. He's self-described as a lover of Linux, open source, Go, and Python; Matt is also a home automation fanatic, spends lots of time with his dog, and advocates for reform among DFW businesses to become software first. 6:30 - 6:45 - Social 6:45 - 7:10 - Club Business/JobFair 7:10 - 8:00 - Kubernetes through iteration 8:00 - 8:15 - Group Discussions /Q&A 8.15 - 8.30 - Social/Wrap-up
