  • Bandsaw and Drill Press Workshop

    This workshop covers basic operation of the maker-space's drill press and band saw, for metal only. We will cover speed and feed selection, and work-holding techniques.   • Introduction to Electronic Circuits

    Join us on the Third Monday of the month to learn about electronics. We are working with the Radio Shack Electronic Learning Lab and working our way through the accompanying workbook by Forrest Mims. Each month we progress through the workbook to learn new aspects of electronics. This month experienced participants can continue to work on electronic learning lab exercises and for new participants we will review basic electronics principals like electronics components and Ohm's law. New attendees to the Introduction to electronic circuits series will need to pay a $5 workshop fee. Non-members of the KzooMakers makerspace will be charged a $5 facility fee.   • Intro to MIG Welding: Exposure and Tack (required safety training)

    This workshop will introduce you to MIG welding. You will learn safety first, including personal protection equipment and basic welding operations, cleaning, set up, and take down. We have 5 jackets and 5 helmets, and several sets of gloves. If you have any PPE already, please bring it. If you are bringing a guest, and we are over 6 people, they may only be able to observe. If so they will not be asked to pay. ATTENTION: you are required to wear closed toed (preferably leather) shoes. NO MESH TENNIS SHOES, no flip flops, no sandles. Please also wear natural fiber clothes, long sleeves and pants. Denim jeans work great. Linen, cotton, and leather are also acceptable. With successful completion of this workshop, you will be able to sign up for other MIG project workshops.   • Wood Ebonization Demo

    This will be a short demonstration of ebonizing wood, the process of chemically making any wood a rich black color (as outlined in this article https://www.popularwoodworking.com/techniques/ebonizing_wood/ ). We will take a few different species of wood through the process to demonstrate both areas things can go wrong, as well as the final results between differing woods. At the end of the demo there will be small samples of the bark powder to take home (enough for two or so pieces of medium furniture). If you have any pieces you would like to ebonize, feel free to bring them to the demo to do so afterwards!
