Learning from Data (LFD)

Details
We've switched gears to spend time on machine learning by working from Learning from Data (http://www.amlbook.com). The book closely parallels Caltech Professor Yaser Abu-Mostafa's introductory ML course by the same name, for which video lectures and problem sets are available online (https://work.caltech.edu/telecourse.html). Feel free to work at whatever pace is comfortable for you, and we'll figure it out as we go. Newcomers who are just starting the book are equally welcome to attend and participate.
This meetup is both proximally and distally about learning, and learning opportunities multiply through discussion. If you find a particular concept, exercise, section, problem, solution, or result interesting or if you have questions about one, we welcome you to share your thoughts with the group when we meet so that we may each learn something new.
We meet in conference room Plutonium, which is near the southeast corner of the building. Please try to show up outside the Lobby (West side of the building in the middle) ~5 min early so we can get visitor badges for everyone and start on time. If you do arrive later and there isn't anyone outside, message the group and someone will come out to let you in.
It is also possible to join via Hangouts at http://meet.csrg.org, and there is a mailing list (http://group.csrg.org) which is mostly used for follow up discussions and sharing references.
