What we're about

The Los Angeles Black Underwater Explorers (LABUE) is a SCUBA diving club that has been dedicated to expanding the knowledge and enjoyment of SCUBA diving among African-Americans since 1992. Despite our name we welcome those of all races.

LABUE strives to provide "something for everyone" in the exciting world of SCUBA diving. Supported by more than 100 members, LABUE has found success by offering a wide variety dive opportunities including beach dives, boat dives, tropical dive vacation trips to some of the most popular dive destinations on earth, and an array of enjoyable social and networking activities.

LABUE has something to satisfy a wide range of SCUBA diving skill levels; and dive interests from technical diving, to UW photography, hunting, UW archeology, and more. We also regularly introduces non-divers to the sport through our Discover Scuba Program. LABUE general membership, committee members, and the board of directors are are volunteers who have worked together to take LABUE to new heights throughout the years.

We have some wonderfully talented divers who dedicated themselves to scuba dive with the latest and at the most forefront guidelines and practices of the sport's standards. If LABUE sounds like something you would like to hear more about, please contact us by email info@labue.org or by telephone at 323-299-3798, or meet us at our general membership meeting which occurs every second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the National History Museum in Exposition Park.

SCUBA REFRESHER CLASS

Pacific Wilderness Inc

Are you ready to start SCUBA Diving again? Do you think your SCUBA skills are a little rusty after months of being out of the water during the Covid Pandemic?

LABUE is pleased to announce the upcoming SCUBA Refresher Class to be held at Pacific Wilderness Dive Shop in San Pedro. The cost is only $50.00.

The SCUBA Refresher Class is for those Divers who may feel they need a little “brushing up” on their skills and some help regaining their comfort in the water.

This class is designed for already certified divers who may not have been in the water for a while and feel a few hours with a Dive Professional should give them the confidence and refresh the skills they need to enter the Underwater World again. Classes are loosely outlined covering some basic skills with concentrated class time in areas students feel they need the most “refreshing”.

If you feel you will need more than a few hours work, you may consider re-taking the Open Water Class (Especially those who have been out of the water for an extended amount of time) or you can consider continuing on to an Advanced Class after your refresher class to better hone your skills.

Covered in this Course:

A short Class Session covering Dive Tables, deco theory, equipment assembly etc.

A Pool Session to cover proper weighting, Basic Buoyancy Control, Buddy Breathing, Mask clearing and whatever other area students would like to cover to regain comfort in the water.

Space to the session is limited and registration before the October 30th registration cutoff date is required to participate.

Contact us for additional details and registration information, email LABUE at [masked].
