When: August 9,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
Elkhorn Creek

Frankfort, KY 40601

Elkhorn Creek - Sunday, August 9th -- 12:00 Noon

I know this is short notice again -- this is the trip that has been discussed on the message board. Didn't think I would be able to make it but I got done what I needed to today. Water levels are looking great as well as the weather.

This section of Elkhorn Creek is near Frankfort, KY.

Here is a description of the trip we will be taking:

This is a 12-mile trip on Class I+ water and averages 4 hours to straight paddle. Good for beginners to intermediate paddlers. This trip starts with the "Fun Float", making Canoe Kentucky your half way check in point, then continues 6-miles downstream as the valley widens out and the creek runs through more small rapids and calm pools. This trip is ideal for those wanting an "All Day Adventure" on the water with great paddling, fishing, wildlife and fantastic scenery. The put in is at Knight's Bridge on KY 1900, Canoe Kentucky is the half-way point, and the take-out is just past the US 127 bridge.

Directions: (For mapping sites, use address above as destination)

You take a right off of US 127 N onto SR 1900, Peak's Mill Road (yes, there is a CK sign there)... Go about 4.5 miles till you see on your left a mailbox on the road with a kayak mounted on top; this is the CK put-in; OUR put-in is the long gravel driveway right before that one... As you turn in, you'll see the "private property" (paid in part by our own Elkhorn
Paddlers club) sign telling you this is the American Whitewater site where we put in the 12-mile. The CK put-in for any renters is right next door, but is THEIR property so we don't put in there. Your renters will WALK or BUDDY CARRY their boats just a few yards over the grass to wait for us and meet.

Meanwhile, those of us owning or borrowing boats will be driving to the take-out. As many boat-carrying vehicles as possible will stay there, while as few cars as possible (to carry people; we usually really pile 'em in) will return. Not sure who owns that land, but both private boaters and CK use it for pick-up; never any problem with towing, etc.

** As far as loaner kayaks, I cannot make any guarantees, it will just depend on who has boats available, so if you would like to come but need to borrow a boat, please post/email/comment and let us know. **

** If anyone needs to rent from Canoe Kentucky, please let me know. I may add additional instructions ? may request you arrive earlier make arrangements with the livery **
