What we're about

NOTE: DUE TO THE COVID19 PANDEMIC, THIS GROUP IS NOT LEADING ANY HIKES FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. Once it is again safe and responsible to have large gatherings, we will resume leading monthly kid-friendly hikes.

If you have kids and like hiking, this group is for you! We will be meeting at various parks throughout Los Angeles for hiking with our kids. My kids are 3 and 4 but all ages are welcome from infant thru adolescent. The goal is to teach our kids to notice the plants and animals around them and the beauty of nature. Slow-pokes welcome!

Currently most meets are scheduled 9 AM Saturdays. If you'd like to organize one at a different time, please contact me about becoming an event organizer.

Please note that this event is in Corona Del Mar, Orange County.

For safety, please note that this is not an open invitation. When your kids get restless and need to get out, please contact me so that we can arrange for your family (keeping the total number of participants very low to keep safe distance) to participate in family outrigger canoe experience. Please text to:[masked].

I tried to get my kids to get active and appreciate the nature, but after trying combined total of 11 seasons of soccer, basketball, and volley ball, we discovered outrigger canoe. This sport helps kids with focus, teamwork, conditioning, and, above all, provides fun activity that both parents and kids can do together.

There are some prerequisites:
1. Both participating parent and child must know how to swim.
2. Child must be 9 years old or older.
3. This is a water sport, so expect to get wet and bring towels and change of clothes just in case.
4. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen.
5. Bring water or sports drink.
6. It's free of charge.

If you want to enjoy water sport with your kids, help raise awareness for beach pollution, and paddle around the Newport Harbor or venture out to the open sea, this will be a treasure of an experience. This is a water sport, so be ready to get wet and dress appropriately - regular shorts or swimming shorts, t-shirts, you get the idea. Please arrive by 10:30 am.

Our coach is a life-long advocate of sports and keeping ocean clean, he is semi-retired former civil servant and has decade plus experience in outrigger canoeing.

If you and your kids are ready to come outside to learn this Pacific Islander way of traversing the ocean, please contact me in advance so that we can make arrangements you and your kid(s).
