Biblioqueer (WGG Book Club): Wicked: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch

Details
I can't fit the whole damn title of the book in the event title, so the book you're looking for is Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. You've all probably heard of the book, as almost everyone in the Western world knows of the musical based off of the book.
But I'll tell you a little bit about it anyway (from Wikipedia): The novel is a political, social, and ethical commentary on the nature of good and evil and takes place in The Land of Oz, in the years leading to Dorothy's arrival. The story centers on Elphaba, the misunderstood green-skinned girl who grows up to become the notorious Wicked Witch of the West. Gregory Maguire fashioned the name of Elphaba from the initials of Lyman Frank Baum, L-F-B. The story is divided into five different sections based on the plot location. There is also a prologue where Elphaba is spying on Dorothy and her friends, hearing their gossip about her.
As usual with the recent Biblioqueer Meetups, I'm hoping we can have a not-so-shallow discussion about the book and even talk about how it compares to the musical, for those of us that have seen it. Of course, the tide can always turn based on attendee preferences. We'll meet, eat, and chat.
I chose El Rincon Criollo because the last time I ate their food I wanted to cry due to not having had Cuban food that delicious before and I was angry it took me 29 years to find it. Check out the menu at their website here (http://www.bestcubanfood.com/). Also, BRING CASH, JUST IN CASE! See you all there!
