What we're about

Art therapy involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, coloring, or sculpting to help people express themselves artistically and examine the psychological and emotional undertones in their art. With the guidance of a credentialed art therapist, clients can "decode" the nonverbal messages, symbols, and metaphors often found in these art forms, which should lead to a better understanding of their feelings and behavior so they can move on to resolve deeper issues.

Art therapy helps people explore their emotions, improve self-esteem, manage addictions, relieve stress, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, and cope with a physical illness or disability. No artistic talent is necessary for art therapy to succeed, because the therapeutic process is not about the artistic value of the work, but rather about finding associations between the creative choices made and a client's inner life. The artwork can be used as a springboard for reawakening memories and telling stories that may reveal messages and beliefs from the unconscious mind.

This is an on-going (monthly) process group for both men/women. We will be utilizing art as a vehicle that will assist us express and process feelings. It’s a safe and non-judgmental place for people to process their feelings, provide and receive support, and learn coping skills and self-care strategies for any hardship in life. The group session is 1.5 hr long for 5 people or under, 2 hrs for 6-8. The group will be canceled for the week if number of the participants is less than 3 (so please don’t forget to RSVP and make the payment in advance). So minimum number required for this group is 3 and max is 8. Contact me if you have any questions.

The groups will be facilitated by Liz Liskin, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist/Registered Clinical Art Therapist.
