What we're about

WE ARE BACK!

BOTH GROUPS NOW WHOLLY FREE TO ALL ATTENDEES!:)

CREATIVE WRITING GROUP STILL (INTERNATIONAL!) ON ZOOM!

THE BOOK GROUP IS BACK,as an OPEN GROUP/REAL-WORLD MEETINGS GROUP!

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Re Creative Writing Group:.BECAUSE WE ARE CURRENTLY ON ZOOM, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE IN MERSEYSIDE OR NEARBY AREAS; you can be ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

BOTH GROUPS ARE SAFE SPACE GROUPS: you must identify as LGBTQ(and be over 18); the books/writing need not necessarily be lgbtq in content!

PLEASE READ INDIVIDUAL EVENT DESCRIPTIONS CAREFULLY.

1. CREATIVE WRITING: IS ALWAYS THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH, 1.15-4.00.

THE FORMATS ARE BROADLY THE SAME AS IN THE "REAL-WORLD" MEETINGS.

NB. THERE ARE ATTENDEE LIMITS OF ABOUT 16 FOR BOTH GROUPS; but with a waiting-list, where people are accepted in turn. PLEASE ONLY RSVP IF YOU ARE PRETTY CERTAIN YOU WILL BE ATTENDING; and change RSVP to NO if you change your mind later. Thanks:)

2..BOOK GROUP ALWAYS 12- 2 SATURDAYS (SEE POSTS FOR INDIVIDUAL MEETS AS THE SATURDAY IN THE MONTH VARIES).

__________________________________________________________________________________________

1. CREATIVE WRITING GROUP: We read aloud any genre of our own creative writing(eg poetry, scripts, fiction,cross-genre). There is also the chance to PERFORM your own work in a safe space:)

SUITABLE NEW/EXPERIENCED WRITERS/PERFORMERS.

NO PRESSURE TO READ AT YOUR FIRST meet ; you can just get a taster!

Members have to identify as lgbtq(this is a SAFE SPACE) but the content does not have to be lgbtq-related!

MINIMUM AGE:18+

Format is: read in turn, with time limit, then CONSTRUCTIVE (only) feedback and discussion related to what has been read. This is pre-prepared material . We usually have a theme, but writing about this is NOT compulsory!

We also do on-the-day "Writing Adventures",based on a PROMPT:eg words/an object.

We are non-hierarchical and democratic; and ask that all members respect each other(this is especially true for creative writing, which is often very personal). If you cannot agree, agree to DISagree!

The group is facilitated by published authors, usually group members. Occasionally, we have a GUEST FACILITATOR,who may offer a certain skill. But it is, primarily, a PEER FEEDBACK BASED GROUP, not a course!

FREE TO ALL ATTENDEES:)

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________-

2.BOOK GROUP:Attendees must identify as LGBTQ, as this is a safe space group; and be over 18.

We choose a genre together;then pick a specific novel/fiction from WITHIN that genre(we only read fiction:eg thrillers, literary fiction, comedy etc etc. Lgbtq content or non lgbtq content.

We also have a segment where you can talk about books you have recently read and might recommend to others;or a THEME,choosing pieces of writing that reflect that theme(related to the set book).

No obligation to attend more than one meeting(you can just have a taster!).

Respect guidelines apply; if you cannot agree, agree to DISagree!

ALL MEETS ARE FREE!

RE BOTH GROUPS

Please note, we signpost people with sexual identity issues and sexual health issues to,e.g,the Armistead Project and Sahir House, as they are specialists in the field; it's not that we do not want to help people; just that they are the experts!

We also have a friendly LGBT(18+) SOCIAL GROUP ; AVERAGE NUMBER OF ATTENDEES:35-55 here

You can also contact me, Steve, the Organiser, at stev_arts@yahoo.co.uk re ANY/ALL of the groups

WE CONTINUE WITH RATTE'S SUCCESSFUL AND WIDE-RANGING SERIES OF WORKSHOPS ON "WORLD-BUILDING".

NB.IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO HAVE ATTENDED PREVIOUS WORKSHOPS, as they are all self-standing:)

Upto now, this has encompassed scifi type worlds, lgbt/gay/trans/queer worlds, and much else; you are your own world, as your characters are theirs; so applies to any genre: (auto-)fiction, autobiography, stories, poems, scripts etc etc

Ratte will send some pre-reading material(NOT compulsory!) before the meet, as long as you provide your email, in a private message on here, to me, Steve: [masked]

Ratte is a much-published poet, and runs writing retreats.

Steve is about to be published in "Queer Writing for a Brave New World", a collaboration between "Out on the Page" and "The Modernist Society";as well in various publications including our very own self-published book:"Made Up", here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Made-Up-anthology-Liverpool-Merseyside-ebook/dp/B078XRT94P/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=made+up+lgbt&qid=1634326311&qsid=258-2156144-4129842&sr=8-1&sres=B078XRT94P%2CB087LJFZJ7%2C1471166201%2CB08459QCTT%2C1783443766%2CB07H3VFNLX%2C0241435269%2CB07SSKTRKV%2C1472961501%2CB07XFQXC7K%2C1529381363%2CB07NVN9ZJ6%2CB07SNF1FVZ%2C1784709735%2C000830579X%2CB076SZ5312%2CB077MMFZWJ%2C031648623X%2CB00G1TOJ7Y%2C0241476178

THE WORSKHOP IS BASED ON ON-THE-DAY WRITING PROMPTS.

A READ ALOUD GROUP (unless your first meet; then it's fine just to listen , and get a flavour)
Screen-sharing is an optional EXTRA.

WE ALSO DIVIDE INTO SMALLER BREAK-OUT ROOMS AT TIMES, FOR GREATER INTIMACY.

THE SESSION BEGINS WITH:

1. A BRIEF PROMPTED WRITING ADVENTURE

2. ASKING IF ANYONE HAS WRITTEN ANYTHING ON THIS MONTH'S PREPARED WRITING THEME: "MEMORY/REMEMBRANCE"(it is "Remembrance Day"). Any writing on this and related subjects is fine.

STYLE: CONSTRUCTIVE CRITIQUE from your peers

DEVELOPMENTAL FEEDBACK, eg how you might further develop a character, or an image in , eg a poem.

It is NOT about imposing your subjective view of "how writing should" be done on another writer; so please be constructive but gentle!

THERE WILL BE ONE BREAK OF ABOUT 15 MINUTES
