This is a reminder for the upcoming virtual PFLAG PWC parent/adult group meeting on August 18th via Zoom.
In order to participate in the virtual meeting, simply fill out this form: https://forms.gle/SuBX7PgGZEWzzDEo9. At approximately 6:30pm (30 minutes prior to the start of the meeting) you will receive an email with the Zoom link, password, and dial-in option. We will keep a list of the RSVPs as a sign in sheet. This is done to help protect our meeting participants as much as possible. Remember that sign in sheets are confidential, however, we would like to have a sign in sheet in the event there is an issue.
You are welcome to participate using your camera, using voice only, or chat only. When we send out the Zoom information, please do not forward this information to anyone. If you think somebody would be interested in participating, please send them this form and encourage them to RSVP.
The PFLAG PWC facilitators decided that there wasn't a guaranteed safe and confidential way for the youth groups to meet virtually, so we will not be providing Zoom meeting for our youth group. However, there are several organizations that are available for youth to continue to connect with other LGBTQ youth virtually. These programs are connected to reputable organizations and are safe inclusive spaces.
Q Chat Space - a program that is part of the CenterLink, Inc. an LGBTQ organization in Florida. They provide daily live chats (not video or audio) in a facilitated environment for teens 13-19 generally around certain topics.
Side by Side - based in Richmond, Side by Side is the model PFLAG's youth groups are based on. You must fill out a form to participate (link directs you to the form). Links to participate in the meetings are posted on Facebook although they probably will also email you the links directly once you sign up.
Matthew's Place - an online resource for youth that curates blogs written by other youth. Matthew's Place is part of the Matthew Shepard foundation. Youth are able to submit content.
Trevor Project - Known for being a suicide prevention resource, Trevor Project has expanded programming beyond their lifeline to include text, instant messenger, and Trevor Space which is an LGBTQ affirming social media platform.
We know that virtual solutions cannot replace the community building connections that meeting in-person provides, but safe virtual options can be an excellent supplement even when the quarantine is lifted. We can't wait to see you all at Bull Run Unitarian Universalists again!
