• Shared event with Adventurers Meetup group • Masks are now mandatory in public meetup gathering areas. Masks are optional during actual hike but social distancing is still in effect. Starting early to beat the heat and UV sun exposure. Relatively easy 4.3 mile "no scrambling 10000 steps" hike (Level 2), elevation gain 650 feet. From our parking area, we hike up and along an old mining road around the mountain bend. From this dirt road, we soon ascend to follow the mountain ridge trail to Ike's Peak and back again. Turn right (west) on Ford Avenue. Near the end of Ford Avenue, on the right side, you may see Forbuss Elementary School. At the end of Ford Avenue, turn right (north) on Reynolds Spring Road and then left on Cougar Avenue. We can park along Cougar Avenue and Todd Allen Creek Street (parking photo at imgur link above). For those coming from the southeast or Henderson, you might try going west on Blue Diamond Road aka H-160 and turn right (north) on to Ft Apache Road. Going north, turn left (west) at Ford Avenue. Masks are optional during actual hike but social distancing is still in effect. Anti-maskers are not welcome on this hike. Do not make ANY right turn (wrong way) from the main Calico Basin Road. Meet (see photo) near the Red Springs picnic area. If Red Springs parking gate is closed, park outside the gate. You will not pass through any fee gates. This is a relatively "easy" hike with minimal scrambling. It may last up to 3+ hours. This hike is for beginners and for those not interested in the faster pace or longer distance of other hikes. Pace will be set by the group. Adults and children age 12+ are welcome. Well-behaved dogs on leash okay but maybe not a good idea in hot summer months.
