CHARLESTON PEAK via the North Loop Trail - THURSDAY
Are you ready for a challenge? This hike is by special request and will give everyone bragging rights to say that they have hiked to the highest peak in Southern Nevada. This will be a long high altitude hike, very scenic and fun. Isn't that why we all hike? Be sure that you are prepared for a long trek. I will add that anyone that has hiked with me knows that we will hike as a group, at a moderate pace and nobody will get left behind. It's "not a race" but we want to return to civilization before dark! Charleston Peak is not recommended as your first hike at higher elevations. Elevation gain, length and high altitude make this hike very challenging. We will be going up the North Loop Trail to Trail Canyon. Scenic and beautiful 16 mile long hike. BE SURE TO BRING AT LEAST 2 liters of water, snacks and lunch. It's best to BRING MORE WATER THAN YOU THINK YOU WILL NEED. We will be able to stash water along the way as we are coming down on the same different route. Bring adequate water and food with you plus something to share with the others! I'll make up a nice big banner and we'll have lots of picture opportunities that day. After this hike, we'll all be saying: "wow ... can you believe I did it? What a hike! Wow!" lol *** NOTE: CANCELING WITHIN 48 HOURS MAY RESULT IN A "NO-SHOW" POSTING. **** We'll start at the Trail Canyon parking lot, hike two miles on Trail Canyon until we reach a flat plateau area. From there we will head left and hike another 6 miles to Charleston Peak - almost 12,000 feet elevation. Following a brief stop for pictures, signing the log and having lunch, we'll return the same way. The total hike is about 16 miles RT, up and back and should take us no more than 8-10 hours to complete. We will begin the hike at the North Loop trail starting from the Trail Canyon parking lot at Mount Charleston. This hike has a round trip of about 16 miles 11,918 feet at Charleston peak. The total elevation gain will be around 4,980 feet. BTW / FYI: If the weather is forecast to be nasty ... we will re-schedule. Let's do it! Go for it! ***** Please donate $5.00 to your carpool driver to help with gas and other expenses. **** Please be aware that Meetup organizers are not tour guides and are not park rangers.
