Hello,

and happy new year everyone! If attending more meet-ups isn't part of your resolutions this year, go on and add it on now! I promise you, only good things will come out of it.

We're super excited for another year of Ladies that UX, with a number of awesome talks coming up, starting this January!

So this month Eriol Fox is going to be talking to us about research! And not any olde research, but ethnographic research around difficult topics in difficult circumstances. Eriol has done some incredible work in the last few years and we can't wait to hear their stories!

  • Here's a bit more about the talk:

Eriol has been working in the non-profit, humanitarian technology sector for the past two years immersed in how to build technology products and services that empower and give access to people in the global south or 'developing countries' often around difficult topics like Genocide, Democracy, gender-based violence and in difficult circumstances such as informal settlements (slums) and areas where radicalisation is high.

This is a summary of how to approach difficult topics when researching these areas or these countries along with some tips for those looking to work or learn more about how to conduct UX research in these places.

  • About Eriol

Eriol is a Design Lead who has worked in-house design roles for 9+ years. Most recently in humanitarian, non-profit technology organisation Ushahidi, developing open-source, digital tools to help people with better democratic processes, human rights issues, natural and human-made disasters.

Eriol is a non-binary, queer person who uses they/them pronouns and an LGBTQIA+ advocate.

They are deeply passionate about intersectional inclusion and promoting healthy attitudes towards mental health in the tech sector.

Massive THANKS to Adlib for hosting this event and even throwing in food and drinks for us for good measure!

It goes without saying (but it's kind of nice to say it sometimes..), as these are completely voluntary events, without people's generosity and contribution they wouldn't be possible!

If you or anyone you know would like to host a future event or support us in any other way, please get in touch.

Lastly, here's a reminder of the date change this month:

IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE
Please note that, due to speaker's availability, this month we will be meeting on Thursday 23rd January, which is the 3rd rather than our usual 4th Thursday of the month. Sorry for any inconvenience.
