What we're about

Calling all adventure hikers! This is a group for walkers and outdoor adventurers of all different ages, skill levels and body shapes. There is no fee to be in this group, but if you want to chip in towards the semi-annual Meetup dues, come talk to me. I started this group to get off the couch and get to know the people in the community. Fitness is easier in numbers. Good for your heart socially, emotionally and physically. We will walk at designated times and places. Try to remain active in the group. Suggestions for new activities are encouraged. And if you want to help post/organize events, let me know. Different is good!

Hike Citrus Tract Withlacoochee State Forest & Lunch

Kiosk by Holder Mine Campground

Let's celebrate National Trails Day June 1st! Let's hike one of the more scenic hiking trails of the Withlacoochee State Forest on the Citrus Tract. The Citrus Tract has one of the largest trail loops in Florida (43 miles) our hike will be approximately 10-13 miles (route and distance subject to change. We will meet at Holder Mine and determine our route based on the weather -- please bring necessary rain gear and appropriate layers of clothing. http://suncoast.floridatrail.org/web/citrus_map.php http://floridahikes.com/citrus-hiking-trail WHAT TO BRING PLEASE BRING: 2 or more liters of water (REQUIRED). RECOMMENDED: Lunch, snacks, insect repellent, sunscreen and proper footwear. Parts of the trail will be shaded and parts will be sunny. Depending on weather conditions, the trail can get muddy or wet. The trail will have some elevation changes and roots so a hiking stick may be helpful. Restroom facilities are available in campground adjacent to the Holder Mine trailhead. This hike is considered strenuous level due to distance and elevation changes. Please be in good physical condition. Carpooling - Encouraged due to limited parking. If you would like to carpool please post a comment. Small game hunting--is permitted in Citrus Tract January through March. It is recommended to wear bright-colored clothing, orange or light green. DIRECTIONS From Lake Mary, take I-4 west to the Florida Turnpike exit. Continue on the Turnpike north 70 miles until merging into I-75 north. Use the two right lanes to exit 329 SR-44 Wildwood. Continue west SR-44 west until you reach Pleasant Grove Rd. Turn left to continue south until you reach Trail 10. Turn right on Trail 10 heading west; continue onto dirt road entering forest. Trailhead kiosk will be on south (left) side of road opposite side of campground. LUNCH (optional) For those interested, we can grab lunch after the hike.

Orlando Lake Cherokee Historical Walk ~ 5 miles

Wadeview Park

Please avoid parking in any of the 2 hour limit spots in the Park. There are spots without signs closer to the Community Center/Pool and there is additional parking on both Harding and Summerlin which has unlimited parking on Sundays. As a point of reference, this park is adjacent to Boone High School. Yes, there is a restroom (nothing fancy) in the park were we are meeting, but please be aware that this is the only public restroom on our historical walk. You'll enjoy many beautiful residential locations as we do some name dropping and get a taste of this south of downtown section from the 1920s to today. Our youngest Mayor called this home in the City Beautiful. Because we all enjoyed lunch at Brick and Fire Pizza (Inventive, locally focused pizza & pasta in a casual setting) after our Lake Lucerne trip, we'll continue the conversation and gain back the calories there. They open at noon. 1621 S Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32806. Historical patches are available for $2 for those who are collecting. During historical walks we walk as a large group between locations where we gather to hear about the significance of the site.
