We will sail with Jim Mueller on his classic boat, Driftwood, a 25ft Nimble ketch, to Racine. He will begin setting up the boat at North Point Marina's boat ramp starting at 10am. We expect to launch at 11am, so please arrive prior our expected launch time. Jim will be keeping his boat at Reef Point Marina for the night. Remember we are having our annual Pizza Party at Reef Point that night!! If you would like to sail back the next day, Sunday the 30th, to Winthrop Harbor on Driftwood you can either get a hotel or stay on the boat overnight. If you want to stay on the boat, please let Jim know as soon as possible because space will be limited. If you want to sail back on Sunday, the 30th please see the details and RSVP for that event! Driftwood’s many unique features tame the boat on the water? Driftwood rarely heels much and sails almost flat. If you would like to sail back the next day, Sunday the 30th, to McKinley South Harbor, you can either get a hotel or see if there is availability on another member’s boat to spend the night. Scott will not have availability on his boat. If you are not spending the night, arrangements will need to be made to retrieve your vehicle. Maybe arrange transportation with other crew members. If you want to sail back on Sunday, the 30th please see the details and RSVP for that event! Crew members should bring their own PFD (life vest). For Temporary Guest Members, send a message to the captain asap if you need to borrow one. In addition to the PFD, bring sailing gloves, sunglasses, foul weather jacket (or weather proof jacket), and boat shoes (or non-marring shoes) along with water or soft drink. (Please, no glass containers.) It is always good to bring something to share with others, i.e.: cookies, vegetables, beer, or a dish to pass. Remember the temperature on the Lake can be much colder than on land, bring several layers of clothing. A sweater, hat and warm gloves are not out of order. Please remember the captain is responsible and in charge of his or her boat. Listen, observe, ask questions and learn. Ask what you can do to help. You will be physically active and acting as one of the crew on a sailboat, not just going for a boat ride; participate and enjoy the experience. If you are a dues-paying member, remember that you can bring a guest. Just RSVP that you are doing so. Your guest will need to fill out a temporary guest application. You can have them complete before they come out (see note for non-paid members below). The skipper will have an application on board also. For non-paid members, we must have your signed Temporary Guest Membership Application on file before you can RSVP for an event. Please click on “What we’re about” on our Meetup website and follow the instructions on “HOW TO SAIL WITH US”. We want you to sail with us!!
