What we're about

If you're LooKiNg for a fun and active LKN social group, then this is the group for you! All ages, relationship statuses welcome! Check out our calendar for upcoming events. To help offset the costs of running the group, a nominal $5 annual donation from those who are able to contribute is appreciated (cash in person when you see me is fine).

You are responsible for making sure your profiles have your email address up to date so you receive event communications. Organizers cannot see your personal profile information, including email address. It's your responsibility.

One last housekeeping note, when limited attendance events are scheduled and you are no longer able to attend, please make a concerted effort and change your RSVP, even from your phone through the Meetup app, so as to be respectful to other group members wanting to attend who can make the event. No-shows to limited attendance events will not be tolerated and you will be removed from future limited attendance events if so.

Thanks and I look forward to meeting you at an event soon! Welcome to LKNSC, Ami

Virginia Creeper Trail bike ride - 17 miles Downhill (Easy to Moderate)

Creeper Trail Bike Rental & Shuttle

Let's meet up to explore Virginia's premier mountain biking trail together! Although we will only be riding half of the trail, the VA Creeper Trail stretches 34 miles from Abingdon, Virginia down thru the lovely town of Damascus, Va (known as the Heart of the Va Creeper) along the Whitetop Laurel River and up to its highest point Whitetop Station near the NC State Line at Whitetop, Virginia. Picturesque scenery always at hand, the Virginia Creeper Trail takes you through some of the most rugged country and across some of the most beautiful mountain streams in the Eastern United States. It is widely acclaimed as one of the most beautiful trails on the continent. This former rail bed passes through the Mount Rogers National Recreation area and the highland country of Southwestern Virginia. This is an easy biking adventure that you and your friends and family will talk about for a long time. Our group rode this last year and it was one of the highlights of last year's meet ups. We will ride the 17 mile route from Whitetop to Damascus (~3 hours). These 17 miles are mostly downhill and considered an easy ride, for beginner and experienced bikers alike ($23.40, includes bike rental for these 17 miles, helmet, and shuttle back to your car). You can bring your own bike and/or helmet - bringing your own helmet does not change the price of the bike rental. If you bring your own bike, you will only pay a shuttle fee. VISA and Mastercard are accepted (no American Express or Discover). At Damascus, a shuttle will take us back to Whitetop to our vehicles. Tips for the Trail • Cell phones do not work well from Whitetop to Damascus. • Helmets are strongly recommended (provided as part of your bike rental). • Watch for hikers, bikers, horses, and most of all, children. • Bring cash or credit card - there are stores and restaurants along the way! :) • The Trail is largely maintained by volunteers. Please do not litter. What is the surface of the Creeper Trail like? Crushed limestone and cinder left over from the train days. Tiny gravel and hard packed. Rental bikes were suited well DIRECTIONS we'll meet and rent bikes at Creeper Trail Bike Rental & Shuttle 16153 Highlands Parkway · Whitetop, VA Whitetop, VA is ~2.5 hours from Charlotte depending on what part of the city you will be driving from. Carpooling is recommended (see Discussion Board for suggested meeting sites). The most direct route is I-77N to exit 83 for US21, continue on US21N to US221N, then US221N to US58W which will take you to the bike rental shop (address above). The 17 mile ride will have us back to Charlotte by ~4pm. Carpooling is highly encouraged!

Big Lebowski Movie Night & Costume Party

125 Morlake Dr

This will be an announced community event...but I'm counting on a big turnout from Lake Norman Social Club to really tie the room together! New Victory Lanes will be doing a showing of the 1998 classic "The Big Lebowski" in the Finish Line Restaurant and Lounge. The movie will play on (2) 90" screens and stars Jeff Bridges as the Dude. It also features John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Sam Elliott as The Stranger. The movie will start at approximately 8pm. The costume contest will be held after the movie. The restaurant has a full-service bar and the Dude's drink favorites...White Russians and Stella Artois will be on special all day. There will also be a costume contest! Come dressed as your favorite Big Lebowski character and prizes will be given for the best costumes! Nihilists welcome! But please leave your marmot at home ;) If you "abide" to this event...there is a $10 cover charge that includes a drink ticket and a pass good for 2 games of bowling anytime. We're looking forward to seeing you there! Please send comments with some of your favorite lines from the movie!
