Hello Lakeland Maker Community- and all those interested in joining! We are excited to be in the early-stages of launching a full-fledged Community Makerspace in Lakeland! This means we will have a shared workspace, in Lakeland, where *YOU can have access to: - A space for working on projects - Great tools and equipment you need to use - Knowledge and skills you want to learn - New friends with practical skills We will provide the great tools and equipment that you need to make the amazing things you have always thought about making – or wondered if you could! It's also a special community center where we can share skills and knowledge, and work together on projects of all kinds. You can come find an exciting project to help work on, or a class to take; and we'll help you organize the classes and projects that YOU want to be a part of. Whether you want put an idea into motion, or you want to see what interesting things others have to share, you will definitely want to come check us out! As we grow and develop into the very near future, we will procure some more great tools and equipment that we can all have open access to, and we will move into a more permanent location. Right now, we are a community of makers and new friends who work on projects together, and agree to share our access to workspaces and tools when we are able to. Our members have plenty of basic tools, and a few really awesome tools that we may be able to make available for cool projects, including: - Power saws - Drills - Welders - Sewing Machines - Construction tools - a 3D-printer! … and more! We are also working hard together on several great projects that we will exhibit at the Orlando Maker Faire. We're having a fantastic time, and we invite you all to join us! We have secured an excellent clubhouse location to work on indoor projects and activities every week. We now have regular, Sunday meetings there, and we also have friendly access to a few good workspaces that we can schedule in advance for the larger, dirtier work that needs to be done. Join us on Sundays: 4:00pm to 6:00pm "Open Make Day", All are welcome to come work on a project, share about a project, or just chat about making, learning, or whatever you are passionate about! 6:00pm to 7:30pm “Open Board Meeting” All are welcome to sit in, listen to what we're up to, and participate. What are you interested in making, doing, or learning? Come join us on Sundays and share your thoughts! More about Our Vision: Our makerspace is a place to work on any and all of your projects. It's a place for arts and crafts as much as a place for engineering prototypes. It's a place for knowledge-sharing, and a place that you can hang out and chat about cool things with interesting and diversely talented people. Just by getting together, we can co-create amazing things, we can make and do things that might be impossible for us to do on our own, and we can have much more fun doing the things we enjoy doing with a great group of people! We intend to have a simple storefront, where members can display any of their work that they wish to sell through consignment. We will also be cultivating entrepreneurial ventures – especially projects with a clear social benefit. We have a few concepts that we would like to pursue, and we want to hear about your ideas. Together, we can brainstorm, design, and prototype the things that you want to see come to life. Wherever there seems to be potential, we will work with you to find resources and make connections to help guide your project into a local, start-up enterprise. So, come share your interests, ideas, and passions with us! A small group of us, and several other collaborators, are currently working in our free time on several different projects to display, and there's room to display other projects, still. Several of our projects share a theme about waves. Our main attraction is a large, “dancing Oobleck” speaker box. Overall, our exhibit will be fun and exciting to all the senses, and even educational. If you've ever been to a Maker Faire, you know what an excellent time it is! If you haven't, then you must come check it out, and visit us! The Maker Faire is “the greatest show and tell on earth”. It's fun and exciting for the whole family, and everybody always learns something there. If you have anything that you would like to share at the Maker Faire, then you can come join us at our booth, and display your work there! Our role is to develop the structure, educational classes, projects, and events; and to procure tools, equipment, supplies, and a permanent, physical location for the community to benefit from. Current Offerings For now, everything we're doing together is free and open for you to join, and donations and tool and supply contributions are welcomed. Moving forward, we intend to continue to offer free and donation-based services and activities, in addition to charging membership dues with additional benefits. Once we establish our non-profit, and we have gathered even more exciting tools and equipment to offer to our members, then we will discuss membership costs and benefits. We are open to any support, contributions, time, or cheerleading! If we all pitch in a little bit for our community, we will build something truly amazing that we will all benefit greatly from. You have something unique to contribute to our growing community, and we'll have a great time working on cool projects and learning together. Come join us!
