What we're about
Lakeshore Community Choir (aka West Island Choir); Chorale communautaire de Lakeshore
in association with the Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Congregation (LUUC)
Singers Wanted for the Lakeshore Community Choir!! We're looking for male and female voices -- adults and children -- anyone who loves to sing!
Who are we? We are a diverse group of women, men, teens and children who come together every two weeks to rehearse uplifting choral music with lots of singing, laughter, and of course some time for getting to know each other.
We sing in the baroque, classical and contemporary styles with messages about peace, community building and protecting the earth. We have performed such songs as "The Rainforest Song", "Wood River" and "Hymn to Freedom". Most of our songs are in English, but we also regularly learn songs in French and other languages!
Choir practices are both fun and challenging. We are taught proper posture, effective breathing, and producing good tone and beautiful harmonies. Don't read music? No problem. Vocal recordings of Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass parts are created for each piece for those of us who don't read music to practice at home.
We are a dedicated and talented group of professional, experienced and beginning singers who, in addition to performing at community events, coffee houses, charitable fundraising dinners and concerts, have regular opportunities to perform during the LUUC's Sunday Services.
Our Choral Director: The Lakeshore Choir members are fortunate to have the inspired direction of Pierrefonds singer/songwriter and recording artist Kerry-Anne Kutz. Kerry-Anne is multilingual (French, English, Spanish, Yiddish, German, and Hebrew) and holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master's degree in performance at the Université de Montréal. Most recently, Kerry-Anne was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal for exceptional musical contributions to the community of Montreal and to Canada. Kerry-Anne is the founder and Artistic Director of Montreal's Festival de la Voix. Lucky us!!
Rehearsals: Choir practices are held the first three Sundays each month at 12:15 p.m. at the Norwegian Cultural Centre, home of the Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Congregation, at 5065 Sherbrooke St in Lachine. But come earlier and join us for coffee!
Recommended Donation to LUUC: $160.00/individual; $120.00/under 18 as well as a music fee of $40.00/person.
