Lamia Flow: Public transport hackathon - in cooperation with HSL

Details

Welcome to develop better public transport with Lamia and HSL in our hackathon on the 28th of September 2019! Registration now open at https://bit.ly/31TSsTZ.

TIME AND PLACE

The hackathon starts on Saturday 28th of September at 12:00 and continues until Sunday the 29th of September 12:00 at the latest.

The hackathon is organized in Helsinki, at the Lamia office in Kamppi - Runeberginkatu 5 B, 6th floor.

AGENDA AND THEMES

The day will start with an introduction presentation from HSL. From there we will divide into teams and assign projects. We are utilizing the HSL open APIs for the hackathon.

Do you have a public transport problem in mind? Great, write it up as an open project when registering and we'll make it happen together!

Perhaps you don't have a ready idea but would like to dive into the public transport scene - that's great too. We will have ready projects you can work on with your team in the above categories. Some of the ready-themed teams are led by Lamia developers.

Themes are:

  • Real-time data visualization
Public transport services generate masses of data every second with a lot of valuable information. Projects in this category are supposed to present HSL data in an interesting and understandable way, making HSL operations and their scope visible to the public.

  • Real world problems
Making public transportation efficient is a significant issue in all big cities. Luckily, in the Helsinki area we have HSL actively developing public transportation and also providing a lot of useful data for the development. Projects in this category will focus on a few identified common real-world problems where the public transport user experience could be improved.

  • Open project
Do you think you have an idea for really great public transport project, but it doesn't apply to the previous categories? No problem! We offer an "open project" category, where you can come with any project you have in your mind!

Ready-themed projects you can join:

Tram Jam
We already built a rough model for estimating the tram passenger counts - can we make it accurate enough and build a frontend for it? You might have to board a tram for this project!

The Passenger
Travel around the world with HSL without leaving the couch? We will build "The Passenger" who will do just that. Can we guide him/her remotely between jungles of stops, make experience traffic jams and survive track failures? Let's create a virtual public transportation adventure!

Brokebike Station
Ever gone to get that last city bike just to find out that it's broken, and that's why no one has taken it? No more! Let's build a service that estimates how many city bikes are broken on any given station.

TEAMS AND PARTICIPANT PROFILES

You will be working in teams of approximately 4-7 people. You can register a whole team or just yourself and we will give you a team on the day. If you have a team ready, remember to register all your team members from the registration link.

Developers, data scientists, business minds, designers, all profiles – experienced or junior – are all welcome to the hackathon!
