Laughter Yoga (LY) is a series of simple yet profound exercises based on the philosophy of “acting happy.” Research has shown that the body does not distinguish between simulated and genuine laughter and in either case produces the same “happy chemistry.” In LY we decide to feel good by engaging the body in the physical actions of happiness and relaxation i.e. laughter and deep breathing. This technique does not rely on the mind; therefore one does not need to be happy, have a sense of humor, or even need a reason to laugh.

Laughter Yoga is comprised of short stretching, breathing, and laughing exercises designed to stimulate the diaphragm and the flow of oxygen through your body for enhanced physical, mental, and emotional well being. It starts with simulated laughter exercises and through eye contact and the infectious nature of laughter, turns into genuine delight. It is uplifting, fun, and anchors one fully in the present moment.

LY is a tremendously efficient way to release tension in a positive manner!

Laughter Wellness- Saturday morning Club

Our Laughter Wellness is based on the concepts of Laughter Wellness. EVERYONE can do Laughter Wellness. Meet new people with one thing in common, laughter. We use laughter exercises such as clapping, deep breathing, and playfulness to express our creative minds as a group. Laughter creates a healthy positive attitude, oxygenates your brain and body, reduces the stress, and strengthens your immune system with in one hour of fun. Don't be fooled by the number of people who RSVP on this site. We have a growing group of merry makers and we would be delighted and even tickled pink to have you join us. Laughter Wellness is full of fun and play. We do some stretching, breathing and laughter exercises to bring out the joy of the day. Wear comfortable clothing. You may want a blanket to sit on for our meditation/relaxation activity. In the warm weather having a bottle of water can be useful for hydration too. Feel free to bring family and friends. The more the merrier! We are only allowed to admit persons 18 or older to the club happenings at the Senior Center. Please Note! It is requested that you pre-register with the city to attend the class. There is no fee. You can register here http://www.fcgov.com/recreator - and then once you register you can register for the Laughter Wellness class The city wants to keep track of our registrations for their accounting purposes. You can do this online or at the front desk, just come early enough the first time to register. It is not a requirement to attend. The following are contra-indications that you should be aware of before doing laughter yoga: • Any kind of hernia, • Heart disease with angina pain, • Persistent cough with breathlessness, • Uncontrolled high blood pressure, • Incontinence of urine, • Epilepsy, • Advanced (bleeding) piles and hemorrhoids or any bleeding tendencies in any part of the body, • Severe backache, • Any acute symptoms of cough, cold and fever. Let us know if you have any questions regarding these issues.

Winter Laughter Labyrinth Walk

We had a blast of fun at our last Winter Labyrinth Walk. The snow did not stop us from walking the labyrinth and laughing together. What a great way to start the day and the week. The laughing labyrinth is a combination of two powerful, yet simple meditations... walking and laughing. The basis of meditation is to connect mind and body through breath and presence. Adding elements of movement, sound, and rhythm with walking and laughter invites ease and joy in the practice. Ease and joy attract continuity, inspires a sense of fulfillment and encourages connection. Labyrinths have been around for thousands of years... on every continent, as a way to release tension and align with what is considered sacred in each culture. The walking pattern intentionally switches left to right allowing the brain to let go of trying to figure out what to do and instead relax into being present with each step. There is only one way to the center, no wrong turns or dead ends... it reflects a paradigm of living in trust verses fear. It becomes a portal for releasing difficulty, receiving insight and then returning into the world anew. This three-part process can be intentionally practiced within a group or a personal experience. Join Sharon Montes and Mary Dravis-Parrish as they guide you through this light and joyous experience. Dress warmly for the winter walks and come and join in winter play. Donations will be freely accepted but not required.
