You have constructed some material, and feel you have an act? Feel there is still something missing? Or you want to try stand-up, but don't know how to start being funny, or maybe you want to find a space to be creative to make an act.
The ability to be spontaneous on stage is highly important. To be relaxed but free flowing. To go off script and develop new material. All these skills can be gained by doing a comedy impro course with Mark Phoenix.
In this one day course, you will learn more in-depth advanced impro skills in order to make your stand up work. There will be in depth training on:
- Allowing yourself to fail ,
-Three levels of Yes-And. - Add more details to your act
- How to Use Silence.
- Lots of Practice
- Lots of Feedback
The course is for good for more experience stand up comedians people who have attended previous beginners courses. Improvisors who would like to delve into improv more in depth and improve their presence and spontaneity.

Mark Phoenix
currently teaches many acting courses at the City Lit and he has taught in Europe and internationally. Mark, has appeared in the movies; 'V for Vendetta' with Natalie Portman and the Bank Job, along with much TV and theatre performances.
Marks philosophy passed on during most of his courses, is that “it’s not about you!” It’s about the other person/ actor/ audience. A relationship/ many relationships are required for performance. The importance of listening and of eye contact is paramount. To know how the other feels, gives you so much information that is needed for acting/ improvising. Other important concepts are those of multi-tasking and losing.
This workshop can help you to increase your confidence and your observational skills. In addition increase your emotional intelligence and your ability to adapt, respond and be in the moment.
