About our AMA Guest "Speaker"

Michael is an academic and (serial) entrepreneur. Michael has taught at the university level extensively, and his research focuses on new venture creation from universities, especially the funding of start-ups and spin-outs. He has spent over 22 years in the realm of faculty- and student- entrepreneurship in the research university setting.

He has cofounded over a dozen companies in his career, most in the technology, education and research areas. Michael worked with Dot Edu Ventures, a Stanford-related early stage venture capital fund in Silicon Valley before he joined the University of Edinburgh and its Edinburgh-Stanford Link, where he headed entrepreneurship education for 7 years.

Michael earned his BS in the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, and his MBA from the Johnson School at the same.

His research years were spent pursuing the MSc/PhD at the University of Edinburgh’s Business School. During this time he worked on a university venture capital fund and cofounded TechCube, Edinburgh’s first private incubator.

He also lived in Canada, where he taught entrepreneurship for Royal Roads University, consulted on innovation projects for municipalities and universities, and worked with an incubator in Vancouver (Invoke) where NoseCone Ventures resulted.

Michael is a Director of The Startup Race, and co-started CoFoundersLab Scotland, which morphed into The League of Entrepreneurs as we know it today.

NOTE - Participants will need to have an active League of Entrepreneurs membership which costs £12/year in order to ask questions

You get this when you RSVP and pay for this event. Once registered, questions can be submitted in advance or during the event.

This also gives you access to a community of over 100 startups/investors, the worlds best startup resources and all past/future AMA's.

How AMA's work

  • All AMA’s are done by Text based conversations on Slack (very similar to Reddit)
  • Guests will receive questions before and during the live AMA
  • The guest can choose to answer which questions he/she wants to
    Moderation
Moderators can use their discretion to remove posts they think need to be innapropriate (advertising, or otherwise posts that we feel may deteriorate the experience)

Some awesomeness...

Here's a taster from an AMA with Kevin Hartz, CoFounder of Eventbrite and Partner at Founders Fund to give you a sense of how valuable they can be:

"Hi Kevin. what tips would you suggest for a founder with no sales experience to landing the first 5 SaaS clients?
Kevin Hartz - great question. Given this is your business and you are obsessing over the product, you are in the best position to sell it. I always have considered myself a terrible salesperson so i have always had to build a great product for the market Founders that obsess over their business will have a 6 sense to know what their first customers will really want. You also aren't really selling but learning what they really need and buiding it in conjunction with them so it is really partnering with your first handful of customers I still very fondly remember the bonds with my first eventbrite customers to this date..."
