Lean Startup Regulars: Getting On with Customer Development!

Details

This "Getting On" meeting is for founders (and potential founders) who understand the Lean Startup with Customer Development approach (and have preferably attended one of the "Getting Started" meetings). It's about supporting founders taking a Lean Startup with Customer Development approach for their startups.

Hello Perth Founders and Friends (aka Perth Starters),

Have you got a great startup idea? Or have you already started a new business and it's not going so well? Don't waste any more time or money on building an app or product, getting PR, or even marketing. Come along to Lean Startup Perth and we'll help you find a successful business!

Customer Development is the Lean Startup process to organise the search for a business model. The core process behind Customer Development consists of the following activities:

  1. Documenting your startup idea using the Business Model Canvas (see below),

  2. Choosing the riskiest part of your business model and writing a testable hypothesis for it,

  3. Working out a way to test that hypothesis as quickly and cheaply as possible,

  4. Quickly and cheaply building and running the test to collect data and insights,

  5. Deciding whether the data confirms (or not) the hypothesis and updating the business model.

Repeat the above until a scalable, repeatable, and viable business model is found. A business model that will give you the best chance of success when you try to get investment and scale your startup.

If you can, before you come along to the meeting, download and complete (as best you can) this Business Model Canvas (https://www.dropbox.com/s/n0spl1mew2kcriz/Business%20Model%20Canvas%20-%20High%20Res.png?dl=1) If you would like some guidance answer the questions in this document (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V87to1BLxDY5fNpZvcXNi9y6nnQy81kzm5kBiYW36y4/edit?usp=sharing) and then transfer your answers to this canvas (https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1IJP0yNBpiDxztO9icl8xTJAiLZ5ByovG7KdSWE8GHek/edit?usp=sharing).

If you've had a go at that, or even if you haven't, come along to this Lean Startup Perth meeting and share what you've done or just your startup idea, get some assistance, and learn more about the Business Model Canvas and Lean Startup with Customer Development.

All welcome!

Cheers,
Ashley.

P.S. If you have a startup idea (or event better, a business model canvas) that you would like the group to "workshop" it in an informal discussion mode for one session, then please drop me a note and we can discuss that. It's a great way to take a big step forward with your startup.

Read on for more information about Lean Startup Perth and resources to help you in your Lean Startup and Customer Development journey...

We usually start with a discussion of any startup events that we have attended recently (or significant startup news) and then go around the group, introduce ourselves, and give an update on what we have been up to with our startups (or other interests).

The group will then either: 1) discuss where each of us is at with the process above, 2) discuss a startup topic of interest to members, or 2) workshop an issue with one of the member's startups, or 3) discuss a chapter from a significant Lean Startup book of framework.

Finally, we usually finish off with a discussion of any upcoming startup events, locally or otherwise, what topic or chapter we will discuss at the next meeting, and who will lead the discussion.

If there are no spaces left in the meetup please RSVP to get onto the Waiting List. If there are regularly people on the waiting list we will try to find a bigger venue. Please change your RSVP if you are not able to attend (even at the last moment).

All the best for success!

Cheers,
Ashley.
