Marisa Hamamoto
Marisa is a professional salsa and ballroom dancer and instructor, originally from Orange County and Tokyo, Japan. She currently partners highly reputed Hollywood film choreographer Allen Walls, and other top professionals in the LA/OC area. In addition to salsa and ballroom, Marisa has an extensive 20-year training and professional performing background in ballet and contemporary dance in both the US and Japan. Marisa earned both her BA and MA on merit scholarships (https://www.meetup.com/Sexy-Salsa-Ballroom-Performance-Group/events/86160052/) from Keio University, the “Harvard” of Japan. Linking her dancing with her academic studies, Marisa researched and published papers in the fields of Dance Science and Dance Education, and served on leadership for the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science between 2007-2010. Marisa started salsa and ballroom dancing (in Tokyo) while recovering from Spinal Cord Infarction, a severe nervous disease which laid her paralyzed from the neck down. Understanding and experiencing the physical, emotional, and spiritual rehabilitative benefits of dancing through her own recovery, Marisa recently taught social dancing to a group of individuals affected with Parkinsons disease through an organization named “Parkinsons in Balance”, over an extended period of time. As a dance instructor, Marisa has a mission to share the joy of dancing with the community and to help people build confidence and reach their personal and professional goals through dancing. As a dancer, performer, and choreographer, Marisa hopes to continue to grow and challenge herself in ways she is yet to discover.
