Details

Technology should not be a barrier for anyone in their learning journey. Not only can educational technologies can help students in a more personalized and accessible ways thanks to big data (https://www.meetup.com/Learning-Tech-Labs/events/239161600/) or blended learning (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blended_learning), but other technologies can be introduced to reach learning outcomes and discover students’ potential and interests. This month, Learning Tech Labs explores some of the technologies being used enhance the learning of people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

We’ll be joined by a number of professionals from different fields, including Eoin McDonnell of Whizzkids, who will share their knowledge and experiences with us. Eoin has recently had first-hand experience of working with young adults with mild learning difficulties. He introduced various technologies, including 3D printers, to students from the National Learning Network two months ago. Eoin will share his insights into the challenges, successes and key learning points of the project.

Bo Zhang of UCD will take us on a tour of virtual worlds for and by people with ASD. Bo will also give us her insights into building these worlds and will demonstrate how they are used in a practice.

Joan O'Donnell and the Disability Federation will introduce the topic of Freedom Tech and the impact that it is having to people's lives.

Sharon Lyons will share experience from her recent startup and discuss the power of universal design.
