To appreciate the future, we must reflect on the past and understand the present.
We’ll take you on a journey of the past, present and future of APIs in Vanquis bank, lessons learned and how they inform our future direction, also touching on the effects of regulatory change and how this influences technical decisions within Financial Services.
Michael Gray is a Principal Software Engineer at Vanquis Bank joining in April 2020 to help build the next-generation platform for the bank. For the last 8 years, he worked in a completely different domain, Security Surveillance software, working for a company called Synectics. He worked on a wide variety of projects and products over the years from securing critical infrastructure, airports, major subway systems, some of the biggest casinos in the world, to more recently heading up their cloud initiative to enable their next-generation cloud-native platform.
He is a true techy at heart and loves to continuously learn and improve. His main passions in tech are .Net, Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture and DDD. He loves sharing his knowledge and loves learning from others.
Outside of work he is a keen musician, his main instrument being the violin, he’s been playing since he was 6 years old and still plays regularly with the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra to keep the fingers active.
Phil Doyle is a Principal Software Engineer at Vanquis Bank who has predominantly worked as a lead within the team responsible for the Vanquis mobile app but now has his hand in all things PSD2. Starting his career as an apprentice production engineer for an engineering and pneumatics company making components for the aerospace and rail industry he used his childhood interest in computing and software as he cut his first professional software teeth writing G-code programs for machine tools. A career change led him into becoming a full stack developer building websites and web-based solutions for the public sector before finding himself moving to Kent to join Vanquis Bank.
In his spare time he loves tinkering with microcontrollers, 3D printing and animatronics.
