Leeds Zen Group meets three times a week, at Woodhouse Community Centre to practice Zazen. To arrange an introduction, or for more information about what we do, please call John Callaghan on 07946 476471.
Zazen is silent, seated, objectless meditation. We sit still and upright, offering our complete attention to each moment. Central to Zen Practice is the practice of Zazen – simply sitting, not grasping at the thoughts and emotions that arise within us, nor rejecting them, but allowing them to pass by. Through this - naturally, unconsciously and automatically - we become aware that many of our everyday preoccupations are not so important and that clinging tightly to them brings suffering to us and to others.
We ask members to kindly contribute towards the cost of our rent and utility bills, with a recommended rate per session of £5 waged / £3 low-waged and concessions. The first session / introductions are free.
We are affiliated to International Zen Association UK (IZAUK), which was founded in 1986 to support the Zen dojos which follow Master Deshimaru’s teaching in the UK. IZAUK is a charitable trust run by a voluntary committee of trustees made up of representatives from each Zen dojo in the UK.
