We have owned 5 Alaskan malamutes, 3 Huskies, a Newfoundland and an American Eskimo. Most of the time 2 at a time. We currenty have an Alaskan Malamute 5 months old named Juneau.
Our last 2 Mals were adopted from Dodge County Humane Society and Nebraska Humane Society. One Mal Cody was 10 years old when we adopted him, he lived to be 13 1/2. He was the a wonderful pet. Our next dog was a Mal/ Sibe mix who was 6 years old, she had diabetes and we were able to keep her healthy for 4 1/2 years. She passed away in early spring. This time we checked with both Humane Societys and Tayshia Blue rescue, none had a Malamute available so we purchased our puppy from a breeder in Lincoln. We were able to meet his litter mates and mom and dad. This family had a huge (2 acre ) yard where mpm and puppies were able to rum and play. Dad came out after mom and puppies were back in their home.
One of our favorite traits about our Mals is how kind and friendly they are.
We have been lucky enought to have one of each!!
We have done Puppy Adventure with Juneau and have just begun Puppy obedience. With his temperment I am leaning toward Pet Therapy and if I can get my grand child to work with him, agility. I think that ship may have sailed as far and doing agility myself. With our previous Mals and Sibes we have done agility, obedience, pet therapy, dog sledding, cross country skiiing. We just love the breed and feel they are so versatile.
Roy and I have owned Northern breed dogs all our lives. We were active in the Siberian Husky Club of greater Omaha, I was President and Secretary of the Club. As a group we did dog sledding and cross country skiiing.
